Position Summary
The Innovation & Technology Implementation Engineer is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and deploying emerging technologies that improve Stella-Jones’ manufacturing processes, product quality, and operational performance.
Reporting to the Director of Engineering, this role works closely with Engineering, R&D, Operations, Continuous Improvement, and the OIEC to translate new technologies into practical applications across Stella-Jones facilities.
This position bridges innovation and implementation, ensuring new tools, technologies, and engineering approaches are effectively integrated into plant operations.
Travel to manufacturing facilities across the United States and Canada (approximately 30–50%) is required.
Principal Responsibilities
Technology Identification & Evaluation
Identify emerging technologies that may improve manufacturing operations, process monitoring, product quality, or equipment performance.
Evaluate technologies including sensors, instrumentation, automation systems, and data platforms for potential operational benefits.
Conduct technical and economic assessments to determine feasibility and value.
Pilot Programs & Technology Demonstrations
Design and manage pilot projects and proof-of-concept demonstrations for new technologies in operating plants.
Coordinate testing with plant teams to evaluate performance under real production conditions.
Collect and analyze performance data to assess scalability.
Technology Deployment & Implementation
Support the rollout of successful technologies across multiple facilities.
Develop technical standards, procedures, and implementation guidelines for new technologies.
Work with plant teams to integrate innovations into existing operations.
Digital & Process Monitoring Technologies
Support improvements in process visibility, instrumentation, and operational data collection.
Assist in developing improved process monitoring and operational performance tracking capabilities.
Collaborate with engineering and technical teams on systems related to automation and operational data platforms.
Collaboration with Engineering & R&D
Partner with R&D and engineering teams to support implementation of new treating processes and technologies.
Assist with engineering validation of new operational methods or equipment.
Support transition of successful innovations into standard plant practices.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline.
5–10 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, automation, industrial technology deployment, or process engineering.
Experience implementing new technologies, sensors, or industrial automation systems.
Experience managing pilot programs or technology demonstrations in manufacturing environments.
Strong curiosity and ability to identify technologies with practical industrial applications.
Technical understanding of automation systems, sensors, instrumentation, and manufacturing technologies.
Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar) for equipment layouts and technology integration.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to operations teams and leadership.
Willingness to travel frequently across North American operations.
