Position Overview
AcceleratedPM is seeking Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Design Engineers across multiple experience levels (Engineer, Senior Engineer, and Principal Engineer) to support large-scale industrial and EPC projects. This role is responsible for the design, development, analysis, and implementation of control systems and instrumentation solutions across all phases of project execution, from conceptual design through construction and startup.
Depending on experience level, candidates may serve as individual contributors or provide technical leadership, mentorship, and oversight to engineering and design teams.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and review instrumentation and control system design criteria, specifications, and engineering deliverables
Perform a broad range of I&C engineering and design activities including PLC and DCS systems, Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), process controls and network architecture, and communication protocols and system integration.
Prepare and modify instrument datasheets, I/O wiring diagrams, schematics and logic diagrams, panel layouts, and cable schedules and installation details.
Support Piping & Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) development and reviews.
Perform instrumentation sizing calculations for: control valves, relief valves, flow elements, and thermowells and related instrumentation.
Create and maintain instrument indexes and SPI database deliverables.
Develop control narratives, logic diagrams, and cause-and-effect diagrams.
Support procurement activities including technical bid evaluations and vendor submittals.
Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, vendors, clients, and construction personnel.
Support construction activities including RFIs, field changes, commissioning, and startup support.
Ensure compliance with project requirements, applicable codes, and quality standards.
Additional Responsibilities (Senior/Principal Levels)
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
Lead discipline-specific project areas and ensure technical quality and consistency.
Support development of estimates, schedules, forecasting, and progress reporting.
Participate in HAZOP, LOPA, SIL reviews, and safety system evaluations.
Review and audit DCS, PLC, and SIS hardware/software applications.
Support control system strategy development and project execution planning.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Control Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
U.S. Citizenship required.
Experience levels: Engineer: 5+ years, Senior Engineer: 10+ years, and Principal Engineer: 15+ years.
Experience supporting industrial, manufacturing, energy, or EPC projects.
Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Experience supporting DOE or other federal projects.
Experience in highly regulated industrial environments.
Practical field, commissioning, and startup experience.
Experience with: PLC, DCS, and SIS systems, Intergraph SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI), AutoCAD and Bentley MicroStation, and Control system architecture and network design.
Familiarity with: HAZOP/LOPA reviews, SIL assignments and verification, and instrumentation procurement and specifications .
