About The Role
We’re looking for a Technical Specialist – Functional Safety Engineer to support the development of safety-critical automotive systems in a fast-paced environment in Southfield, Michigan.
This role focuses on ensuring functional safety across the full development lifecycle, working closely with cross-functional teams to define, implement, and validate safety concepts according to ISO 26262.
What You’ll Do
Lead the development of functional safety requirements and system decomposition
Review and approve HARA, Functional Safety Requirements, Technical Safety Requirements, and validation activities
Define and influence system architecture from a functional safety perspective
Develop and maintain functional safety processes, tools, and metrics
Drive SOTIF activities for autonomous driving and related subsystems
Define safety concepts across system, hardware, and software
Collaborate with hardware, software, and validation teams to ensure safety compliance
Support hazard analysis and development of safety concepts
Interface with suppliers and internal teams on functional safety topics
Support validation and verification of safety requirements
Contribute to technical decision-making at system and program level
What You Bring
8+ years of experience in functional safety engineering or similar role
Strong expertise in ISO 26262 and delivery of functional safety work products
Experience performing SOTIF analysis and developing related deliverables
Proven ability to lead or manage functional safety activities for systems/products
Experience supporting external reviews and audits of safety work products
Strong understanding of OEM–supplier safety responsibilities
Experience with tools such as Medini, APIS IQ, and Jama
Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
Must to have
Experience working in Agile environments
Knowledge of Automotive SPICE or CMMI
Background in embedded systems (hardware and/or software)
Advanced degree in a relevant engineering field
