Digital Design / FPGA Hardware Engineer (Intermediate Level)
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Digital Design / FPGA Hardware Engineer to support the development of advanced hardware solutions for mission-critical systems. In this role, you will design, implement, and verify FPGA and digital hardware used in high-reliability applications, including missile systems and other complex products.
You will collaborate cross-functionally with systems engineers, circuit designers, and software teams throughout the full product lifecycle—from requirements definition through integration, testing, and production.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop FPGA-based solutions across major platforms including Xilinx, Intel (Altera), and Microsemi
Implement designs using VHDL for applications such as:
Gigabit serial interfaces
RF and Electro-Optical (EO) digital signal processing (DSP)
Data links and embedded processing
Control systems and processor interfaces
Perform full lifecycle FPGA development, including architecture, coding, simulation, synthesis, and place-and-route
Collaborate with systems and hardware teams to define requirements and develop system architectures
Support algorithm modeling and performance optimization
Verify designs against requirements and support integration, validation, and testing efforts
Design and develop digital circuit cards and hardware assemblies for production environments
Ensure designs meet strict quality, reliability, and manufacturability standards
Work with high-speed digital interfaces such as PCIe and Ethernet
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
Experience with digital hardware design and FPGA development
Strong understanding of digital circuits, processors, and embedded systems
Experience designing hardware for production-level systems
Familiarity with hardware validation and verification processes
Preferred Skills & Tools
Experience with:
High-speed digital design
Microprocessors and microcontrollers
PCB/PWB design and schematic capture
Proficiency with tools such as:
Siemens Xpedition
DxDesigner
HyperLynx
Knowledge of:
Signal integrity and high-speed layout considerations
FPGA simulation and debugging tools
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Tucson, AZ.
Pay And Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $80.00/hr.
