Our client, an early stage HealthTech startup in NYC, is looking for a Founding Engineer to join their team.
This is a highly hands-on role for someone who thrives in ambiguity, enjoys owning problems end-to-end, and wants meaningful influence over product direction, engineering culture, and customer outcomes.
About the Role:
Build and scale backend systems primarily in Python
Work directly with customers to understand workflows, pain points, and implementation needs
Design APIs, integrations, and internal tooling that support real-world operational use cases
Ship quickly and iterate based on feedback from users and the broader team
Partner closely with founders on product strategy, technical architecture, and roadmap prioritization
Debug production issues and improve system reliability as usage scales
Contribute across the stack when needed, but with a strong emphasis on backend architecture and infrastructure
Help establish engineering best practices, tooling, and culture from the earliest stages
About You:
Strong backend engineering experience, ideally with deep Python expertise
Experience building and maintaining production systems in startup or high-growth environments
Comfortable interacting directly with customers and translating business problems into technical solutions
Entrepreneurial mindset with a willingness to operate outside rigid role definitions
Bias toward action and ownership
Strong systems thinking and product intuition
Ability to thrive in fast-moving, ambiguous environments
Excited by the opportunity to help build a company, not just write code
Nice to Have
Experience with AI/LLM products or workflow automation
Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and distributed systems
Exposure to data pipelines, integrations, or platform engineering
Prior founding, startup, or early employee experience
Experience in highly operational or regulated industries
