Northwest Hydraulic Consultants (NHC) is looking to add a fisheries and restoration design engineer out of our California Branch. NHC is an international firm of civil engineers and geoscientists providing professional services for the development, management, and protection of water resources. A career at NHC has you working within a specialized team of geoscientists, water resources engineers, hydrologists, surveyors, field technicians, and GIS specialists. This is an opportunity to work on challenging and unique projects in California and throughout the west. The position will be based out of one of our offices in Sacramento, Pasadena, and South Lake Tahoe.
About The Role
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience. The title, responsibilities and salary will be dependent on the individuals qualifications. The position requires regular in-office work at an NHC office, and candidates must be based near one of these office locations. A hybrid work schedule, including both in-office and remote workdays, is available.
The successful candidate will work closely with Principal engineers and geomorphologists on a range of hydraulic, fish passage, and restoration design projects throughout California. The successful candidate will have opportunities to lead project teams, oversee the design and development of fish passage and habitat restoration designs, and oversee project implementation and construction. The successful applicant will work directly with clients, subconsultants, and NHC team members.
Required Skills And Experience
B.S. Degree in civil/water resources/environmental engineering or closely related field with 5+ years of experience.
Licensed professional engineer in California, or the ability to obtain license via testing or reciprocity within one year of NHC employment.
Strong understanding of the principles of hydraulic engineering for open channel systems.
Experience on civil construction jobs including preparing construction plans, specifications and cost estimates (PSandE).
Experience in projects that include problem evaluation, alternatives analysis, planning, design, and construction.
Self-motivated with competency solving engineering problems with a demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively on project teams. The individual must be able to prioritize multiple tasks to meet tight deadlines.
Experience applying hydraulic computer models.
Strong technical writing background with demonstrated abilities to prepare written reports and communicate effectively.
Desired Skills And Experience
M.S. or Ph.D. in civil/water resources/environmental engineering/fluvial geomorphology or closely related field.
Experience in the planning, design and construction of fish passage engineering facilities and restoration projects in riverine environments.
Experience with construction observation, reviewing construction submittals and responding to requests for information.
Design drafting and proficiency in CAD.
Project management experience that integrates multiple staff and subconsultants
