The Opportunity
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Firmware Engineer with strong expertise in C Programming, Firmware Development, JTAG Debugging, PCIe, NVMe, SATA, I2C, UART, SPINOR, MCTP, PLDM, RDE, RAID, Secure Firmware, RoT, and TCG OPAL-based SED Drives. The candidate will work closely with the Marvell engineering team on firmware and software development, maintenance, feature enhancements, and bug fixing for enterprise and data-center storage products, including NVMe Accelerators, SATA Controllers, and Encryption Controllers.
Key Responsibilities
Analyze product requirements and gain a comprehensive understanding of firmware and software architecture for storage products.
Understand system-level design, development environments, validation setups, and equipment required for firmware development activities.
Learn and support host/server software integration required for device attachment and deployment.
Design, document, and implement new feature enhancements and bug fixes.
Analyze NVMe and SATA controller architectures, hardware peripherals, and controller board interfaces.
Understand firmware/software stacks, tools, modules, and layered architecture within storage solutions.
Evaluate existing firmware features and identify areas for enhancement and optimization.
Develop, maintain, debug, and enhance firmware and associated software tools.
Investigate, triage, and resolve defects reported internally and by customers.
Develop unit tests and support achieving target code coverage goals.
Collaborate with validation and test teams for issue reproduction, debugging, and verification.
Track defect resolution activities and maintain proper documentation.
Participate in customer discussions, technical reviews, and engineering meetings as required.
Support firmware, tools, and driver releases as per customer release schedules.
Provide regular project status updates, RCA reports, and technical progress reports.
Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure successful product delivery and quality objectives.
Required Skills & Qualifications
3+ years of experience in Firmware Development, Embedded Systems, or Storage Domain.
Strong programming expertise in C.
Hands-on experience with Firmware Development, Debugging, and Maintenance.
Strong debugging skills using JTAG and protocol analyzers.
Experience with storage and communication protocols including PCIe, NVMe, NVMe-MI, SATA/AHCI, I2C, UART, SPINOR, MCTP, PLDM, RDE, and RAID.
Good understanding of Secure Firmware, Root of Trust (RoT), and Self-Encrypting Drives (TCG OPAL).
Strong knowledge of ARM Architecture and embedded hardware interfaces.
Experience working with protocol analyzers and debugging tools.
Understanding of hardware peripherals, controller architectures, and storage firmware stacks.
Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Skills
Experience in Enterprise Storage or Data Center products.
Exposure to NVMe Accelerators, SATA Controllers, and Encryption Controllers.
Experience working directly with customers and handling production issues.
Knowledge of software tools, drivers, validation frameworks, and test automation.
Educational Qualification
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems, or a related field.
