About the Role
Galatek is seeking a Field Service Engineer (FSE) to ensure the reliability, performance, and uptime of our laboratory automation instruments deployed across pharmaceutical, biotech, and research customers. This entry- to junior-level role focuses on hands-on installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of complex automation systems.
As a customer-facing engineer, you will own instrument health throughout its lifecycle, learning to act as a primary technical resource for field service execution. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated recent graduate or early-career engineer looking to build deep technical expertise and strong problem-solving skills in demanding, cutting-edge laboratory environments.

Key Responsibilities
Installation & Maintenance: Install, commission, maintain, and repair Galatek laboratory automation instruments at customer sites under standard operating procedures.
Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, fluidic, and software-related issues, escalating complex problems to senior team members when necessary.
Client Relations: Execute preventive maintenance, corrective service actions, upgrades, and retrofits to ensure instrument reliability and customer satisfaction.
Documentation: Document field service activities, troubleshooting steps, and resolution metrics clearly, accurately, and timely in compliance with company tracking systems.
Customer Training: Train customers on proper instrument operation, routine maintenance, and basic service best practices.
Cross-Functional Feedback: Provide structured field feedback to Engineering, Manufacturing, and Product teams to contribute to continuous system robustness and serviceability improvements.

Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechatronics, Electronics, Biomedical, Mechanical), or a related technical field completed by the start of employment.
Hands-on Experience: Relevant hands-on experience with automation systems, robotics, motion systems, fluidics, sensors, or control software (highly relevant academic capstone projects, lab coursework, or internship experience fully qualify).
Language Proficiency: Bilingual fluency in English and Mandarin Chinese is required to effectively communicate and collaborate with cross-border engineering teams, international vendors, and global stakeholders.
Problem-Solving: Proven foundational ability to troubleshoot across mechanical, electrical, or software domains.
Autonomy: Comfortable learning to work independently in professional, customer-facing laboratory environments.

Travel & Legal Requirements
Domestic Travel: Willingness and ability to travel 40–60% domestically to customer sites and internal meetings.
International Travel/Training: Willingness and ability to travel internationally for an extended initial training program (minimum 1 month) at our facility in Suzhou, China.
Documentation: Must possess or be eligible to obtain a valid passport and the necessary visas/travel authorizations for international training.

Preferred Qualifications
Prior internship, co-op, or apprenticeship experience servicing or building automation platforms (e.g., liquid handlers, robotics).
Familiarity with or exposure to life sciences, pharma, or biotech laboratory environments.
Basic understanding of regulated environments (GLP, GxP, clinical, or manufacturing standards) through coursework or internships.
