What To Expect
As an Equipment Engineer at Tesla, you will play a crucial role in developing and enhancing equipment for our advanced battery cell manufacturing processes. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to building a world-class manufacturing facility from the ground up in a fast-paced and demanding environment. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Quality, and Process teams, to take new products from initial design through prototype development to full production. Your work will involve optimizing equipment and processes, ensuring safety, and driving continuous improvements in a critical subsystem of innovative products.
What You'll Do
Oversee the startup, validation, and enhancement of new and existing equipment and fixtures for production
Lead initiatives to improve safety and ergonomics of production equipment, ensuring compliance with regulations and best practices
Design, fabricate, install, and modify equipment improvements, including managing bidding and quoting processes
Collaborate with Controls Engineers and technicians to troubleshoot and optimize processes using PLC, HMI, or tool management software
Develop detailed maintenance instructions for complex and ambiguous repair tasks
Create preventive maintenance procedures and a comprehensive spares list to enhance equipment OEE
Manage continuous improvement projects to drive equipment performance based on metrics such as OEE, Availability, MTTR, and MTBF
Integrate machine interactions with the plant-wide Manufacturing Execution System (MES)
What You'll Bring
Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
2+ years of hands-on experience as a Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineer with a focus on automation or electromechanical systems
Proven experience in ramping equipment into manufacturing, including automation, hydraulics, pneumatics, electromechanical systems, and motion controls
Experience developing operating and maintenance instructions and training operators
Proficiency in CAD design tools such as SolidWorks (Catia is a plus)
Preferred experience with layout creation, tooling drawings, pneumatic, and electrical schematics
Preferred experience in robot programming and vision systems (e.g., Cognex, Keyence)
Preferred experience with semi-automated or automated manufacturing equipment in a high-volume environment
