Job Title: Outdoor Test Systems Engineer
Location: Wittmann, Arizona
Salary Range: $80,000 – $90,000 + performance-based bonus (typically 5–7% of base salary)
Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on, technically skilled engineer to lead the design, development, optimization, and maintenance of outdoor weather testing systems at our desert testing site in Wittmann, Arizona. This role combines engineering expertise with day-to-day operational support and requires significant time working outdoors in desert conditions.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a physically demanding environment and has strong experience with electro-mechanical systems, controls, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain, troubleshoot, and upgrade data acquisition systems and control systems, including PLC programming
Design and implement engineering improvements to enhance system performance, reliability, and usability
Lead and support engineering projects in collaboration with maintenance technicians
Develop and maintain detailed technical documentation, procedures, and system records
Build and maintain deep technical knowledge of weather testing processes and equipment, with the ability to communicate concepts clearly to stakeholders and customers
Serve as a technical resource for site operations and customer support
Provide direction and guidance to the maintenance team, working collaboratively to resolve technical issues
Support overall site operations, including acting as a backup for site leadership when needed
Coordinate calibration activities for measurement and testing equipment
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience
5–10+ years of experience in a hands-on engineering role involving complex electro-mechanical systems
Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems and controls, including PLCs, motors, relays, timers, switches, and protection systems
Proven experience designing, maintaining, and improving mechanical and electrical equipment
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD)
Experience with structural design and welding concepts
Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication and design
Experience with database systems or data management
PLC programming experience (any platform)
Work Environment
Significant time spent working outdoors in desert conditions, including exposure to high temperatures
Combination of fieldwork, hands-on equipment interaction, and technical problem-solving
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive base salary ($80,000 – $90,000)
Annual profitability bonus (historically 5–7% of base salary), based on company performance and individual contribution
