Title: Engineering Tech - Mechatronics Lab incharge
Location: Mountain View, CA
Work Model: Onsite

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Engineering Tech - Mechatronics Lab incharge with deep expertise in 3D printing and mechanical prototyping to lead our Mechatronics Lab. This role is critical to maintaining a high-performance experimental environment where engineers design, build, debug, and iterate on complex electromechanical systems.

This position requires strong, demonstrated experience operating and maintaining 3D printers and mechanical lab equipment. Candidates without significant hands-on 3D printing and shop experience will not be considered.

You will own the lab infrastructure end-to-end ensuring equipment uptime, supporting rapid prototyping, and enabling fast hardware iteration cycles.

Key Responsibilities:
3D Printing Ownership (Primary Responsibility):
Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all 3D printing systems (FDM, SLA, or similar).
Own end-to-end 3D printing workflows: slicing, material selection, machine setup, troubleshooting, and post-processing.
Ensure high reliability, print quality, and fast turnaround for engineering needs.
Mechanical Lab Operations:
Operate and maintain manual and powered shop tools (drill presses, saws, hand tools, etc.).
Rapidly fabricate parts, fixtures, and prototypes to support debugging and iteration.
Lab Equipment & Maintenance:
Develop and enforce preventative maintenance schedules to ensure near-zero downtime for critical tools.
Maintain and calibrate precision electronic debugging tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, soldering equipment).
Hardware Debugging Support:
Partner with engineers to diagnose mechanical and electrical failures in robotic/mechatronic systems.
Support PCB debugging and rework as needed.
Inventory & Procurement:
Manage inventory of critical consumables (filament, resin, mechanical components, tooling).
Ensure continuous availability of materials supporting rapid prototyping.
Lab Organization & Safety:
Implement and maintain 5S or equivalent lab organization standards.
Enforce strict safety protocols, including battery handling (LiPo/Li-ion) and chemical disposal.
Vendor & Facilities Coordination:
Manage vendor relationships for equipment servicing, sourcing specialized materials, and procurement.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a closely related field.
3–5+ years of hands-on experience in a mechanical lab, prototyping lab, or makerspace environment.
Mandatory: Advanced, hands-on 3D printing experience
Daily operation and troubleshooting of 3D printers (FDM, SLA, or similar)
Strong understanding of print settings, materials, and failure modes
Experience producing functional mechanical parts (not just basic prints)
Mandatory: Strong mechanical shop experience
Hands-on use of manual fabrication tools
Experience building and modifying mechanical components and assemblies
Experience with electronics debugging tools and environments:
Soldering (including SMD)
Oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and PCB debugging
Proven experience managing lab operations:
Inventory systems
Equipment maintenance
Vendor coordination
Demonstrated ability to operate in a fast-paced, hardware-focused R&D environment with rapid iteration cycles.
