Job Description: Engineer – Tool Design
Role Summary
The Tool Design Engineer focuses on designing the tooling components, jigs, fixtures, and gauges required for the fabrication, machining, and assembly of plastic injection molds and components.
Key Responsibilities
Fixture & Jig Design: Design robust manufacturing fixtures, inspection gauges, and secondary operation tooling.
Machining Interfacing: Collaborate with the CNC, VMC, and EDM machining teams to ensure tool designs align with internal manufacturing capabilities.
Material Selection: Determine appropriate tool steels, hardness treatments, and standard parts (e.g., Hasco, DME standards) for structural longevity.
Troubleshooting: Support the tool room in resolving assembly bottlenecks, tool interference issues, and machining discrepancies.
Data Management: Organize and manage 3D tool data models and assembly drawings safely within the PLM/PDM system.
Key Requirements
Education: Diploma / Degree in Tool & Die Making or Mechanical Engineering.
Experience: 3–5 years of experience in tool/fixture design within a tool room environment supporting injection molding.
Skills: Expert knowledge of 3D modeling, standard tooling components, GD&T, and precision machining processes.
