Role Summary:

The role sits within the ES&T Tools stream and provides technical leadership for automation architecture, application integration, design automation methods, and CAD productivity solutions. All deliverables must comply with Corporate Engineering and CAD standards. The position partners with engineering leadership, platform teams, GTEC, IT, CAD Standards owners, and the ES&T Standards stream to deliver scalable, maintainable automation that improves productivity, design consistency, and controlled reuse.

Responsibilities:

Develop and maintain SolidWorks automation using the API.
Develop and support DriveWorks projects covering rules, forms, specifications, model and drawing generation, and deployment packages
Lead automation projects from requirements gathering through design, development, testing, deployment, and continuous improvement.
Automate repetitive tasks including model creation, drawing generation, configuration management, design validation, metadata population, and standard product customization.
Create reusable frameworks, code libraries, templates, and test methods for automation development.
Ensure generated CAD models, drawings, and metadata comply with approved Corporate CAD standards.
Collaborate with the ES&T Standards stream where automation impacts PLM metadata, lifecycle workflows, BOM structures, design release, or document control.
Partner with IT on deployment, access control, packaging, version control, integration, security, and maintenance of automation tools and embedded-AI
Troubleshoot issues across SolidWorks automation, DriveWorks rules, model and drawing generation, performance, and user adoption.
Review existing automation tools and identify opportunities for standardization, consolidation, modernization, and improved maintainability.
Define track, and report KPIs for automation usage, productivity gains, error reduction, cycle time reduction, and adoption
Develop technical documentation, user guides, training material, test plans, release notes, and support procedures.
Mentor engineers on automation methods, SolidWorks API usage, DriveWorks practices, and coding standards.
Stay current with SolidWorks, DriveWorks, CAD API capabilities, embedded-AI and engineering software trends

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
Minimum 7 years of combined experience in engineering design, CAD automation, CAD development, or engineering software automation.
Strong hands-on expertise in SolidWorks (parts, assemblies, drawings, configurations, design tables, templates, libraries) and the SolidWorks API for automating models, drawings, metadata, and configurations
Strong programming experience in C# and VBA for CAD and engineering applications, including source control, testing, and release management of automation tools.
Hands-on experience with DriveWorks covering rules, forms, model and drawing generation, specifications, deployment, and troubleshooting.
Proven experience leading CAD automation projects from concept through deployment, training, and support.
Working knowledge of CAD standards (modeling, drawing, templates, metadata, naming, design reuse) and CAD data management in PLM (lifecycle workflows, design release, BOM generation, integration points).
