Our client is a well-established consumer products manufacturer with a corporate headquarters in Indianapolis and manufacturing sites across North America. Their small, high-impact corporate desktop team is hiring an Endpoint Technology Engineer to mature their endpoint environment and drive the modernization roadmap for ~2,600 workstations supporting both corporate and manufacturing users.
This is not a heads-down ticket role. You will be the technical driver pushing the environment from a Microsoft Configuration Manager (MECM) hybrid model toward an Intune-first future, while still respecting the realities of imaging and domain join that won't fully go away for a few years. You'll partner with IT staff at every site, mentor a more junior teammate, and have a real voice in shaping the endpoint roadmap.
If you're aggressive about owning your environment, allergic to sitting still, and fluent in PowerShell beyond what AI can autocomplete for you, this seat will keep you sharp.
What You'll Do
Drive endpoint modernization. Lead the strategy and execution of the move from MECM to a fully Intune-managed environment, laying the foundation to retire domain-joined systems over time.
Own the Intune practice. Configure, deploy, and administer endpoint technologies across Windows (primary) and macOS — operating systems, application deployments and upgrades, security tooling, and management policies.
Tackle complex application delivery. Modernize how dozens of small manufacturing and line-of-business applications get delivered. Move the team away from manual installs toward electronic delivery using strong PowerShell scripting and packaging skills.
Be the L3 escalation point. Roughly 30% of your time is hands-on: respond to escalated tickets onsite via ServiceNow, work through complex desktop and endpoint issues, and provide vacation coverage for the team when needed.
Welcome walk-ins at the helpdesk. You'll sit at the corporate helpdesk alongside the support team, greet walk-in users, and handle the issues that need a senior touch.
Maintain the imaging pipeline. Continue using MECM for imaging and domain join in the near term while building the runway to deprecate it.
Shape the roadmap. Contribute to endpoint technology roadmaps, define hardware and software standards, maintain SLAs, and evaluate new tools and vendors.
Lead incident response. Drive timely resolution on critical incidents, perform root cause analysis, and turn lessons learned into permanent improvements.
Document and standardize. Create and maintain SOPs, work instructions, and solution documentation so the team scales beyond tribal knowledge.
Mentor and onboard. Coach a more junior teammate, onboard new hires, and run training for IT and business users to lift the overall endpoint IQ of the organization.
Must-Haves
3+ years in an endpoint or desktop engineering role at the enterprise level.
Strong, demonstrable PowerShell scripting ability — we mean writing it, debugging it, and using it to solve packaging and deployment problems, not just prompting an AI to generate it.
Hands-on experience administering Microsoft Intune in a Windows enterprise environment.
Solid command of Windows OS, M365/O365, and the desktop application stack.
Experience with enterprise imaging, endpoint deployment, and application packaging.
Working knowledge of Windows Server, TCP/IP, and endpoint virtualization concepts.
Comfort supporting executive users with professionalism and discretion.
Nice-to-Haves
Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM / SCCM) administration experience.
macOS endpoint support.
ITIL Foundation certification or equivalent IT Service Management background.
CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop / Endpoint Administrator Associate, or Apple Certified Support Professional.
Exposure to AV equipment, networked printers, and other shared corporate endpoint hardware.
Who You Are
Self-driven and aggressive about keeping yourself busy — passive operators won't thrive here.
A thought leader who follows the roadmap but feels real ownership over where it's going next.
Comfortable being the most senior endpoint voice in the room and the one a junior engineer learns from.
Pragmatic about legacy: you can keep the lights on with what's there today while building toward what's next.
Logistics
Location: Indianapolis, IN.
Schedule: Onsite 4 days per week with 1 remote day (Monday or Friday).
Why This Role
This is a rare seat where one person genuinely moves the needle. The environment needs maturing, the budget and executive support are there, and the next person in this role will be the one whose fingerprints are on the modernization. If you've been the senior endpoint voice on a bigger team and you're ready to be the senior endpoint voice, this is that step.
