Electronics Test Engineer – Electromagnetic Compatibility and Thermal Systems
Job Description
This role focuses on planning, setting up, and executing Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and environmental test programs for advanced automotive cooling and thermal management components. You will work hands-on in a laboratory environment with glycol-based coolant systems, radiators, and hoses, ensuring that all tests meet OEM and industry standards. You will install and troubleshoot electrical and instrumentation systems, operate flow carts and test benches, analyze data, and deliver clear technical reports that directly support engineering decisions.
Responsibilities
Set up and execute laboratory and environmental test programs involving glycol-based cooling systems and thermal loops.
Configure and operate flow carts and test benches to validate fluid flow, pressure, and thermal performance for automotive components.
Conduct testing on radiators, hoses, and other thermal management components in accordance with OEM and industry standards.
Install, wire, and troubleshoot instrumentation and electrical systems, including sensors, thermocouples, pressure transducers, and data acquisition (DAQ) systems.
Read, interpret, and follow engineering drawings, schematics, and written test procedures to ensure accurate test execution.
Monitor test performance in real time, collect high-quality data, and identify anomalies or issues during test execution.
Troubleshoot test setups, hardware, and data acquisition issues to minimize downtime and maintain test integrity.
Analyze test results, perform data reduction, and generate detailed technical reports that clearly communicate findings and recommendations.
Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to align test activities with program objectives and resolve technical issues.
Ensure all testing activities comply with laboratory safety practices, procedures, and standards.
Essential Skills
At least 2 years of experience in automotive testing, laboratory environments, or validation engineering.
Hands-on experience setting up or executing tests involving fluid systems such as coolant, glycol, or closed-loop thermal systems.
Electrical experience with flow carts, pump systems, or fluid circulation test setups.
Working knowledge of radiator, hose, or cooling system testing in an automotive or similar environment.
Basic to intermediate electrical knowledge, including wiring and instrumentation setup for test systems.
Experience integrating sensors such as thermocouples, pressure sensors, and flow meters into test setups.
Proficiency with data acquisition (DAQ) systems and test instrumentation for measurement and control.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills applied to both mechanical and electrical test issues.
Ability to read, interpret, and follow engineering drawings, electrical schematics, and detailed test procedures.
Background in electronics and thermal systems testing, including EMC test exposure or experience.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in thermal management, HVAC, or powertrain cooling systems.
Familiarity with OEM or industry test standards such as SAE and similar automotive testing guidelines.
Experience with automated test systems or control platforms for test execution and monitoring.
Exposure to tools such as LabVIEW, MATLAB, or similar data analysis and automation tools.
Familiarity with test and analysis platforms such as MTS, Siemens TestLab, or comparable systems.
Strong communication skills for documenting results and collaborating with engineering teams.
Attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, repeatable test data.
Work Environment
You will work on-site in a brand-new, dedicated automotive testing facility focused on laboratory and environmental validation. The environment is hands-on and test-focused, with regular use of flow carts, test benches, DAQ systems, and a variety of sensors and instrumentation. You will spend much of your time in the lab setting up equipment, running tests, and monitoring systems, with additional time at a workstation for data analysis and report writing. The facility operates in a structured, safety-conscious manner, with established lab procedures and standards guiding daily activities.
