Job Title: Principal Engineer, Electronics
Location: Carson, CA (Onsite)
Role: Contract/Full-time

Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Engineer, Electronics to lead the research, analysis, design, development, testing, debugging, and modification of advanced electronic systems for the commercial aerospace industry.
The engineer will work on Variable Frequency Motor Drives (VFMDs) for vacuum generators and air compressors, ACIM/BLDC motor systems, low-voltage AC/DC power converters, 28V DC valve controllers, and Water & Waste (W&W) system controllers.
This is a technical leadership role requiring strong expertise in MATLAB/Simulink, SPICE circuit analysis, power electronics, magnetics, hardware design, testing, and aerospace airworthiness requirements. The successful candidate will lead or support multidisciplinary engineering teams and ensure robust, reliable, and compliant designs are delivered within schedule and budget.

Must-Have Qualifications
Strong experience with MATLAB/Simulink
Hands-on experience with SPICE / PSpice
Experience with low-voltage AC/DC power converters
Experience with 28V DC valve controllers
Strong knowledge of power electronics and circuit design
Experience designing magnetics for:
EMI filters
Boost/buck inductors
Input/output filters
Experience with Altium and/or OrCAD
Aerospace electronics or other highly regulated industry experience preferred

Key Responsibilities
Analyse customer requirements and validate them through modelling, simulation, prototyping, and performance analysis.
Develop and maintain hardware requirements specifications and hardware interface control documents.
Perform SPICE circuit simulations using Altium, OrCAD, or PSpice.
Develop MATLAB/Simulink models and control algorithms.
Design and analyse magnetics for EMI filters, boost/buck inductors, and other power-filter applications.
Perform component selection, lifecycle, and obsolescence management.
Design electronic circuits and perform schematic capture using Altium/OrCAD.
Develop detailed hardware design documentation, including design analysis, calculations, guidelines, and engineering rationale.
Provide technical input to PCB layout and perform PCB board bring-up.
Perform worst-case DC load analysis, component derating, thermal analysis, and performance-margin analysis.
Develop PCB-level functional test procedures and Design Verification Test Procedures (DVTPs).
Perform electronics hardware testing and prepare Design Verification Test Reports (DVTRs).
Troubleshoot complex hardware and independently develop innovative engineering solutions.
Review, approve, and process engineering changes and technical data.
Ensure designs meet applicable airworthiness standards, customer requirements, and internal engineering standards.
Conduct research, development testing, technical investigations, and trade studies.
Lead small- to medium-sized engineering projects and support larger cross-functional programs.
Review and approve engineering work performed by peers and junior engineers.
Mentor, guide, and train lower-level engineers.
Collaborate with engineering, industrialization, operations, suppliers, and OEM customers.
Support new product development, continuous improvement, and standard-work initiatives.
Present technical findings, analysis results, and trade studies to engineering and program stakeholders.

Preferred Experience
Commercial aerospace electronics experience.
Experience with Water & Waste (W&W) systems.
Experience with VFMDs, ACIM, or BLDC motor drives.
Experience with aerospace AC/DC power conversion and 28V DC systems.
Experience with hardware verification and qualification testing.
Knowledge of aerospace airworthiness and certification requirements.
Experience working directly with OEMs and suppliers.
Proven experience leading technical projects and engineering improvement initiatives.
