Reporting directly to the Electronics and Electrical Engineering Manager in France and in dotted line to the Electronics & Component Engineering Manager in India, the Component Engineering Lead will act as: a component engineering expert supporting CAMECA business units globally. He/ She will also be the key user and subject-matter expert for SiliconExpert (or equivalent tools), driving best practices, data quality, and adoption, a risk anticipator, proactively identifying supply, lifecycle, and compliance risks at BOM level and a bridge between Engineering, Sourcing, and Suppliers, ensuring fast, fact-based decision-making. This role is a critical enabler for business continuity, cost competitiveness, and engineering robustness.
Responsibilities
The Component Engineering Tech-Lead will:
Component Supply Risk Management (Current & Future)
React rapidly to immediate component shortages impacting business units
Perform BOM-level risk assessments covering: Lifecycle status (NRND, EOL, obsolescence), Sole / single-source components, multi-sourcing opportunities, market availability and lead-time volatility, geopolitical and regional risks (e.g. China–Taiwan exposure), monitor market trends by commodity (ICs, passives, connectors, discretes, etc.)
Component Intelligence & Tool Ownership (SiliconExpert)
Act as global key user and reference for SiliconExpert or equivalent platforms
Define and maintain standard methodologies for: Risk scoring, Lifecycle monitoring, Compliance checks (RoHS, REACH, PFAS, conflict minerals)
Support engineering teams in interpreting tool outputs and translating data into decisions
Drive continuous improvement of data quality, templates, and dashboards
Train and support internal stakeholders (Engineering, Sourcing, Materials)
Alternate & Replacement Component Strategy
Identify drop-in alternatives whenever possible, using SiliconExpert, OEMs, distributors, and brokers
Analyze parametric, form-fit-function (FFF) differences
Recommend validated alternatives to BU Engineering teams
Coordinate feasibility reviews with Product & R&D Engineering
Ensure availability of alternates by working closely with Sourcing and Materials
Engineering Change Management
Support and coordinate ECO / ECR / ECN processes related to component changes
Ensure timely update of technical documentation, BOMs, and PLM data
Act as a structured interface between Engineering and Procurement
Cost Optimization & VAVE Initiatives
Identify and lead cost-out / VAVE opportunities through component re-design, re-sourcing, or standardization
Support business units with data-backed recommendations to improve margin resilience
Compliance & Regulatory Activities
Ensure component-level compliance with: RoHS / REACH / PFAS, customer-specific regulatory requirements
Support audits and internal compliance reviews
Requirements
Education & experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
Master’s degree is a plus
13–15+ years of experience in: Component engineering, electronics supply chain or product engineering, multi-commodity environments
Strong exposure to global supply chains and international stakeholders
Proven hands-on experience with SiliconExpert or similar component intelligence tools (mandatory)
Professionnal knowledge & abilities:
Deep knowledge of electronic components across major commodity families
Strong understanding of: Component lifecycle management, Obsolescence mitigation strategies, PLM systems and BOM structures
Advanced data skills: Strong MS Excel capability, Comfortable handling large, complex datasets
Solid understanding of electronics compliance frameworks
Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail
Ability to work autonomously while interacting with global teams
Clear, structured communication in English (written & verbal)
Pragmatic, solution-oriented approach
Comfortable operating in a matrix and multicultural environment
