Electrical Engineer – Embedded Systems and Product Development
Lynntech is seeking an electrical engineer to support the development of electrical and embedded systems for prototype products in the defense, aerospace, and medical markets. A successful candidate will have the opportunity to work across the product development lifecycle, from early-stage technology proof-of-concept through prototype development and testing to qualification of production-ready designs. The engineer will contribute to multi-faceted electrical solutions through embedded firmware/software development, custom circuit board design, and integration of custom and commercial components.
The engineer will execute technical work as part of multidisciplinary project teams and will have opportunities to develop leadership skills through increasing technical responsibility, collaboration with customers and teammates, and participation in proposal development.
Job Description
At Lynntech, engineering is both theoretical and experimental. Our engineers split their time between developing detailed prototype designs and validating those designs in the lab. Engineering projects involve a wide variety of technologies at different stages in the product life cycle, from breadboard proof-of-concepts to minimum viable products. Our electronics engineers are commonly engaged in the following technical activities:
Designing electrical system architectures and integrating custom electronics with commercial off-the-shelf components, such as power supplies, motor drivers, sensors, actuators, communication devices, connectors, and industrial control hardware.
Developing system wiring diagrams, cable and wire-harness designs, interface-control documentation, and power-distribution architectures
Designing and modeling of schematics for both analog and digital circuits
Designing and testing custom printed circuit boards for analog and digital applications
Creating custom firmware implementations on a variety of platforms for implementation into advanced test fixtures, prototype designs, and marketable products
Maturing prototype electrical systems into reproducible and supportable product designs through component derating, tolerance analysis, design-for-manufacture and design-for-test practices, environmental considerations, and verification against system requirements
The engineer will also participate in activities that support technology advancement and transition:
Working with project leads, customers, end users, business-development personnel, and manufacturing partners to translate operational needs into technical requirements
Collaborating with scientists and engineers to support grant proposals for the exploration and application of new technologies and the continued development of core technologies
Participating in early-stage project research and contributing to the development of system requirements, architecture, and interfaces for envisioned prototypes
Contributing to and executing test plans to evaluate prototype performance against system requirements
Designing and fabricating test fixtures to support evaluation of prototypes, from breadboard systems to minimum viable products
Participating in system design verification and validation activities
Contributing to technical writing efforts for customer reports and project documentation
Supporting technology transition activities, including technical maturation, cost and manufacturability assessments, qualification testing, field demonstrations, and documenting designs for transfer to internal or external manufacturing organizations
Working as an electrical engineer at Lynntech offers many potential long-term career paths. Engineers can advance as technical experts in their discipline, develop expertise in one or more technology areas, and grow into project, personnel, or other leadership roles as their experience and responsibilities increase. Engineers can shape their career growth according to their interests, proficiency, and ability to add value to the engineering team and the organization.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field with at least 2 years of relevant engineering experience (or a Master's Degree in a related field)
Strong fundamentals in electrical, electronics, and software engineering, with the ability to develop designs and contribute constructively to peer design reviews
Experience contributing to system or subsystem designs in areas such as system control, power distribution, or embedded systems based on product requirements and technology constraints
Ability to independently execute assigned engineering tasks, seek guidance when appropriate, and contribute to design decisions in a collaborative environment
Strong technical writing, speaking, and presentation skills
Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment involving close interaction with other engineers within the department as well as other scientists in the company
Must be a US Citizen, or Permanent Resident, to meet project contract requirements
Preferred Skills And Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field with 3-4 years of relevant engineering experience (or a Master's Degree with 1-2 years of industry experience), preferably in a technology-development-oriented industrial setting
Demonstrated application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice, with the ability to organize and conduct assigned tasks to meet established deadlines or milestones
Basic knowledge of systems engineering and the ability to work with teams across the technology-to-product-development lifecycle, including scientific personnel, mechanical engineers, and machining and fabrication personnel
Experience with signal processing
Understanding of machine learning algorithms
Experience with electronics engineering design, embedded microcontroller programming, FPGA development, or similar relevant education and experience
Knowledge and experience in PCB design methods and tools such as Altium Designer
Knowledge of various communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, serial, USB, CAN, and TCP/IP
Programming experience in C/C++, C#, Java, Kotlin, Python, VHDL, or related languages
SPICE modeling applied to analog and digital circuit development
Knowledge and experience in power supply design, embedded processor solutions, filtering, and data acquisition development (A/D and D/A conversion)
Hardware development (schematics, layout, test) (analog and digital design)
Firmware development (microcontrollers such as the PIC32, ARM, or MSP430)
Experience in troubleshooting electrical and electromechanical systems
Working knowledge of general constraints with mechanical and software development, to be able to work with team members with these functionalities
Experience contributing to technical writing
