Primary Responsibilities
HDR’s Distribution Project Engineer will: serve as a project manager for various power distribution projects, conducting concept, design development, and contract document work sessions at project sites in conjunction with Project Managers, appropriate technical professionals, and other disciplines; prepare or review scopes, budgets, and schedules; prepare technical aspects and deliverables associated with the conceptual and detailed design of overhead and underground electric power distribution systems, distribution system planning, lighting design, grounding and lightning protection; coordinate the preparation of construction packages for overhead and underground distribution lines including plan and profile drawings, structure assemblies and details, stringing charts, staking tables, bills of material, and other applicable details; serve as a technical expert with recognized authority in power distribution and transmission design, performing assignments and resolving issues of greater scope and complexity; coordinate the work of the power design team through the schematic design development and contract document phase of a project; establish meetings and participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance; coordinate workload to complete deliverables on schedule; perform site visits during the design, construction, and as-built phases of projects, including participating in field reviews or construction observation; review work performed by and mentor junior engineers and technical staff; review project documents for areas of conflict with other disciplines; write and edit project specifications; coordinate with and assist affected disciplines with addenda, requests for information (RFIs), change orders (COs) and take responsibility to incorporate agreed-upon changes into the project documents; provide construction contract administration, as needed; and implement and perform project quality control plans and conduct QA/QC on the work of other Engineers, Project Coordinators or Designers, or BIM Technicians.
