Job Title: Distribution Design Engineer I (Greensboro)
Job Description
Launch your career in power distribution engineering. As a Distribution Design Engineer I, you’ll design overhead and underground electrical systems while gaining hands‑on experience using industry‑leading GIS tools. You’ll work alongside experienced technical leads in both office and field settings, learning real‑world utility design in urban and non‑urban environments.
Responsibilities
Design overhead, underground, URD, make‑ready, and street lighting distribution projects (4 kV–138 kV).
Develop complete construction work packages using GIS and work management systems.
Perform field inspections to collect data and support accurate, buildable designs.
Complete engineering calculations including pole loading, guying, sag/tension, voltage drop, and flicker.
Prepare permits, easements, and ROW documentation.
Coordinate with utilities and stakeholders on complex or urban projects.
Support construction teams and review completed work for quality and standards compliance.
Assist with outage analysis, mitigation recommendations, and system improvements.
Follow all safety, quality, and design standards throughout the project lifecycle.
Essential Skills
BS in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or related engineering field.
0–1 years of experience (new graduates encouraged to apply).
Ability to perform basic engineering calculations.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Willingness to work in both office and field environments.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Interest in overhead and underground power distribution systems.
Familiarity or interest in GIS tools such as GE Smallworld or Bentley Expert Designer.
Desire to learn utility standards, urban utility coordination, and protection systems.
Strong problem‑solving skills and eagerness to grow technically.
Work Environment
This role blends office‑based design work with occasional field visits for inspections and coordination. You’ll collaborate closely with a technical lead and project team in a structured, safety‑focused engineering environment with strong training and mentorship.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Greensboro, NC.
Pay And Benefits
The pay range for this position is $29.81 - $29.81/hr.
