At Ambiq, we’re developing next-generation ultra-low-power MCU platforms that enable innovative edge and battery-powered devices. We’re looking for a Principal RTL Engineer to play a critical role in shaping production silicon by owning pre-tapeout quality for key digital SoC modules and driving architecture, microarchitecture, and RTL development. This is a hands-on principal-level individual contributor role for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex SoC design challenges, improving quality early in the design cycle, and working across teams to bring advanced silicon to market.
What you’ll do
Own pre-tapeout quality for digital SoC modules across our MCU platforms
Explore system architecture and develop robust microarchitecture for new designs
Design and implement RTL for complex IP and SoCs using Verilog/SystemVerilog
Evaluate, select, and integrate third-party IP
Partner closely with verification and FPGA teams on test planning, debug, and design quality
Collaborate with physical design to achieve timing and power targets
Run quality checks including LINT, CDC, and RDC, and resolve or waive issues as appropriate
Support silicon bring-up and post-silicon validation activities
Help raise design quality standards and drive best practices across the development cycle
What we’re looking for
Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation & Control Engineering, or a related field
20+ years of experience in SoC/IP design and RTL development
Deep, broad knowledge of current and emerging SoC design technologies
Expert-level experience designing, implementing, and debugging complex IPs and SoCs
Strong understanding of how to improve design quality and reduce risk before tapeout
Ability to assess technical tradeoffs, estimate implementation impact, and guide execution across complex programs
Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively across design, verification, FPGA, physical design, and validation teams
A practical understanding of customer needs and market demands, with the ability to translate them into strong technical decisions
Must be able to work in the US without visa sponsorship now or in the future
Why this role stands out
This is a great opportunity for a seasoned SoC design expert who wants direct influence on architecture, RTL quality, and the success of production silicon. You’ll be in a highly visible role with meaningful technical ownership, working on products that require thoughtful engineering, strong execution, and close partnership across the organization.
