The Designer is responsible for developing high-quality, detailed models, drawings, and documentation that support the design and build of mission-critical mechanical and electrical systems—specifically for data center applications. This role produces 2D and 3D design packages, wiring diagrams, equipment layouts, and engineering schematics that directly support accuracy in manufacturing, fabrication, and installation.
The Designer collaborates closely with engineers, engineering project managers, and production teams to ensure all design outputs meet customer requirements, industry standards, and internal quality expectations.
What you will do:
Design & Modeling
Produce detailed working drawings, diagrams, 3D models, and schematics for electrical and mechanical components, assemblies, and control systems
Develop accurate construction documents and extract design data as needed to support production workflows
Create and revise design models to improve manufacturability, quality, and efficiency
Develop prototypes and prepare designs for testing, validation, and implementation
Project & Production Support
Collaborate with engineering teams to incorporate design changes and resolve technical challenges
Support the creation of efficient production systems through thoughtful and accurate design improvements
Interpret customer notes, sketches, vendor drawings, cut sheets, and verbal instructions to create detailed design deliverables
Ensure design packages are completed accurately, on time, and within scope
Problem Solving & Collaboration
Independently troubleshoot and resolve most design-related challenges
Coordinate effectively with internal teams, clients, and vendors to ensure alignment on design requirements
Contribute to a positive, solutions-focused work environment
Perform additional duties as needed to support department and organizational goals
Assist with any additional tasks or assignments required to support mission-critical operations, system reliability, or project delivery
Required Qualifications
Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical design principles
Proficiency with AutoCAD 2D; Autodesk Inventor 3D experience preferred
Ability to read and interpret engineering documentation, wiring diagrams, schematics, and construction drawings
Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving abilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skill
Preferred Qualifications
5–7 years of electrical engineering or design work (required)
3+ years SolidWorks experience in a manufacturing environment
5+ years SolidWorks experience in mechanical and electrical design environment
5+ years Drafting experience to an ASME 14.1 standard (required)
3–5 years of controls/PLC programming experience (preferred)
5–7 years of AutoCAD 2D design experience (required)
1–3 years of experience with PDM systems such as Autodesk Vault (preferred)
Experience in HVAC detailing/design (plus)
Experience in production, fabrication, or manufacturing (plus)
Certification SolidWorks Associate CSWA (requires)
Certification SolidWorks Professional CSWP or higher (preferred)
Certification SolidWorks Associate Electrical CSWA-E (preferred)
Design for Manufacturing DFM (preferred)
3+ years System level design (preferred)
GD&T certificate (preferred)
2+ years Product lifecycle experience (preferreed)
