We want you to join our team of passionate self-starters who believe the world is full of Best Experience opportunities. So, if you’re excited about the thought of a Best Experience career with a team focused on creating Best Experiences for all, we want to hear from you!
This position works from our Joplin, MO location and supports the design engineering team across new product development, testing, and product support including field return evaluations. This is an electronics-focused role centered on prototyping, bench testing, and hardware evaluation of automated shading systems, with secondary mechanical work as needed. Works closely with design engineers and firmware/software teams.
Key Responsibilities
New Product Development and Prototyping
Build prototypes of PCBs, electronic sub-assemblies, and integrated systems from schematics, drawings, and BOMs
Perform component-level PCB rework: component replacement, jumper wiring, solder repair (through-hole and SMT)
Support prototype bring-up, EVT/DVT testing, and pilot builds
Fabricate test fixtures, jigs, wire harnesses, and bench setups
Maintain prototype build records, redline schematics and drawings, and as-built BOM documentation
Coordinate with contract manufacturers and vendors to procure prototype parts and sub-assemblies
Product Testing
Execute functional, electrical, environmental, and mechanical test plans authored by design engineers
Set up bench test equipment and instrument assemblies; support life-cycle, stress, and durability testing on motors, electronics, and integrated systems
Execute firmware, software, and mobile app test procedures (iOS/Android); log defects with clear reproduction steps
Capture, log, and summarize test data in a structured, reproducible format; flag anomalies and escalate deviations
Maintain a clean, safe lab and calibration records; manage tools, consumables, and inventory; performs other duties as assigned
Product Support and Return Evaluations
Receive, log, and triage customer field returns and warranty units
Perform structured return evaluations: functional test, electrical diagnostics, teardown, photo documentation
Write return evaluation reports covering observations, suspected failure mode, and next steps
Partner with Quality and Design Engineering on root cause, corrective action, and trend tracking
Requirements
Education and Experience
Minimum – High school diploma or equivalent; 3+ years hands-on experience in an electronics, engineering, or R&D environment
Preferred – Associate's or Bachelor's in Engineering Technology (BSEET), Electronics Technology, or related discipline; equivalent experience may substitute
Preferred – Experience with motorized products, IoT devices, embedded systems, or consumer electronics
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proficient reading schematics, PCB layouts, wiring diagrams, and BOMs
Hands-on with electronic bench test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies)
Soldering and component-level PCB rework; through-hole required, SMT strongly preferred
Competent with hand tools and basic mechanical assembly
Proficient in Excel for data logging, basic statistics, and charting
Strong written communication — produces clear, structured test and evaluation reports
Methodical; follows test protocols as written and documents deviations
Works independently or as part of a team; safety and quality conscious
Preferred: microcontroller-based systems, firmware flashing, and serial/diagnostic interfaces
Preferred: PCB assembly processes (pick-and-place, reflow, wave soldering, stencil)
Preferred: failure analysis and structured problem-solving (5 Whys, fault tree, FMEA)
Preferred: mobile app testing and bug reporting workflows
Physical Requirements
Lift 40 lbs. occasionally
Sit or stand at a bench for an eight hour shift; push, pull, reach, bend, work overhead
Wear required PPE (safety glasses, ESD protection, closed-toe footwear) and follow ESD and lockout/tagout procedures
