Job Summary

Join our team as a Design Engineer within Service Engineering at Harley-Davidson! This is a great opportunity for an engineer looking to broaden their experience across multiple systems and develop cross-functional skills in engineering. This role supports the engineering activities for Harley-Davidson motorcycle service parts, helping ensure customers remain on the road. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product Engineering, Testing, Supply Chain, and Sourcing to develop and validate service part solutions. This position requires a solid foundation in mechanical design, an understanding of component and system interactions, and a willingness to learn new products, materials, and manufacturing processes.

Job Responsibilities

Support and execute various sized engineering projects that support Harley-Davidson service part continuity.
Solve complex engineering problems related to component and system designs by providing solutions using creative processes and analytical methods.
Collaborate with cross-functional engineering & test support teams as needed to develop robust designs and test plans.
Leverage CAD models, virtual assemblies, and drawings (Creo, PLM) to confirm design fitment, clearances, and tolerancing.
Utilize both conceptual and practical knowledge of engineering tools including Computer-Aided Design (CAD) models and drawings, predictive analysis, and traditional engineering calculations to demonstrate and communicate the robustness of designs.
Leverage Design Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (DFMEAs), Design Verification Plan & Reports (DVP&Rs), and support analysis of test findings.
Support PPAP and APQP processes for new product designs and existing design modifications.
Demonstrate the ability to communicate technical subjects in a clear concise manner to a range of audiences throughout the organization.
Deliver optimal designs while adhering to project targets, performance objectives, high quality, and cost minimization.

Requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical Degree.

Experience Requirements

Minimum of 3 years of related experience
The ability to demonstrate a technical foundation, including an understanding of key tools and processes leveraged in analysis, design, test, and manufacturing
Strong interest or direct experience in motorcycle or vehicle engineering (e.g., automotive, power sports, construction, agriculture, aerospace, and marine)
Ability to communicate technical subjects in a clear, concise manner to multiple levels of the organization
Experience with Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)
DFMEA & PFMEA experience
Experience with PLM (e.g., Windchill)
Thorough understanding of engineering bill of materials (BOM)
Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred

SAP and AS400 experience
Motorcycle or automotive/vehicle engineering experience
Experience with CREO parametric modeling and virtual assembly
Familiarity of Harley-Davidson motorcycles and powertrains

The pay range shown represents the national average pay range for this role. Your pay may be more or less than the stated range and is dependent on your geographic location and level of experience.
