What To Expect
We are seeking a skilled Seat Belt Systems Engineer to join our Vehicle Safety Engineering Team at Tesla. This role focuses on designing, testing, and delivering high-performance seat belt systems for current and upcoming Tesla vehicle programs. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design studio, body, interior, and seat engineering, to ensure optimal occupant protection, comfort, and styling while meeting stringent safety and regulatory standards.

What You'll Do

Design and release all seat belt systems in the vehicle, ensuring proper product packaging, validation, and efficient manufacturing processes
Serve as the primary technical interface with design studio, body, interior, and seat engineering teams to develop seat belt packages for occupant protection, comfort, and styling
Manage and direct Tier 1 suppliers for engineering development and program timing
Support testing and production validation to meet occupant injury and product performance criteria per Tesla targets and regulatory requirements
Provide expertise on seat belt design for restraint system integration, collaborating with the CAE team to optimize component design and achieve five-star NCAP safety ratings
Support crash tests from early development to homologation, ensuring components meet pedigree requirements for test vehicles and other validation needs
Address supplier and field quality issues to maintain high-quality products for customers


What You'll Bring

Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
Relevant mechanical design engineering project experience at a university or professional level
Ability to navigate obstacles, identify opportunities, and manage technical challenges under tight timelines
Effective verbal and written communication skills to discuss technical issues with peers and suppliers
Strong engineering fundamentals in problem-solving and hands-on skills
Knowledge of manufacturing methods and component/assembly tolerancing
Intermediate to advanced 2D drawing and 3D modeling CAD skills, preferably in CATIA

Expected Compensation

$91,600 - $164,400/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
