Design Engineer II (Mid-Level / Senior Contributor)
Location: Fort Worth, TX (HQ)
Department: Engineering / Product Development
Reports To: Head of Engineering Department / President
Position Summary
The Design Engineer II is responsible for leading the design, development, and launch of firearm components and systems, owning projects from concept through production.
This role requires strong technical execution, decision-making, and cross-functional leadership, with direct impact on product performance and speed to market.
Key Responsibilities
Lead design of firearms components, triggers, receivers, and assemblies
Own full product lifecycle: concept → prototype → validation → production
Create advanced SolidWorks models, assemblies, and detailed drawings
Perform:
Tolerance stack-ups
Fit/function validation
Design for manufacturability (DFM)
Drive prototype development and testing, including hands-on builds
Conduct root cause and failure analysis
Collaborate with manufacturing to optimize:
Cost
Throughput
Quality
Interface with vendors for materials, coatings, and production processes
Support and mentor Design Engineer I team members
Ensure compliance with ATF, ITAR, and industry standards
Manage multiple product programs with clear timelines and deliverables
Qualifications
Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks (required)
Strong experience with:
Machined components
Mechanical systems design
GD&T and tolerance analysis
Deep understanding of:
CNC machining
Materials (steel, aluminum, polymers)
Finishing/coatings
Experience with:
Prototype testing & validation
Failure analysis
DFM / DFA principles
Preferred Experience
Firearms industry experience strongly preferred
Experience with AR platforms, trigger systems, or precision components
FEA experience (bonus)
Experience & Education
Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
5–10+ years experience in product design
Success Profile
Executes at a high level with minimal supervision
Balances speed vs. quality vs. cost
Strong ownership mentality
Comfortable making decisions in a fast-moving environment
