Job Description
ITG Communications is hiring a Design Engineer I Remote, US.
The Design Engineer I supports the planning, design, and implementation of Fiber to the Home (FTTH) network infrastructure. This role assists in the development of Outside Plant (OSP) and Inside Plant (ISP) fiber designs under direct supervision. Design Engineer I uses established engineering principles and computer-aided design (CAD) tools to produce construction-ready drawings, specifications, and documentation to support network deployment projects. This position performs entry-level professional engineering work and escalates complex design challenges to senior engineering staff.
Responsibilities
Assist in the design and layout of FTTH Outside Plant (OSP) and Inside Plant (ISP) fiber networks.
Prepare construction drawings, splice diagrams, permits, and supporting documentation.
Develop preliminary and final design packages in accordance with company and client standards.
Support route selection, fiber counts, and material selection.
Utilize CAD and network design software to create accurate design deliverables.
Perform field data review and incorporate findings into final design packages.
Ensure designs meet customer specifications, local codes, and industry standards.
Maintain organized design records and revision control.
Support permitting processes and right-of-way documentation when required.
Assist in development of bills of materials (BOM).
Coordinate with Project Managers, Construction Teams, and Field Engineers.
Support internal design review processes.
Participate in project meetings as required.
Address redlines and as-built revisions.
Identify design inconsistencies and propose solutions.
Assist in improving design standards, templates, and processes.
Stay current on FTTH technologies and industry best practices.
Requirements
Key Measures / Key Performance Indicators:
Accuracy and completeness of engineering designs
On-time delivery of assigned projects and milestones
Compliance with engineering standards, codes, and client requirements
Quality of cost estimates and reduction of rework or change orders
Effectiveness of cross-functional coordination and communication
Education
Associate’s degree or higher in Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience
1+ years of engineering or telecom design experience preferred.
Entry-level candidates with relevant internships may be considered.
Experience with FTTH, OSP, or ISP design preferred.
Exposure
Primarily office-based environment with prolonged computer and CAD usage.
Frequent exposure to construction documentation, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
Periodic field visits to active OSP construction sites.
Exposure to outdoor weather conditions during site walks (heat, humidity, cold, rain).
Exposure to uneven terrain, construction zones, and right-of-way environments during field inspections.
May be exposed to moving construction equipment and utility infrastructure.
Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety vests, gloves, and protective eyewear during field visits. Factors critical to success at ITG Communications for this position:

Demonstrates strong attention to detail while managing multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
