Design Engineer

A stable, internationally backed manufacturing organization is seeking a Product Design Engineer to join its engineering team. This role offers strong visibility within a small, collaborative environment and the opportunity to take ownership of both new product development and continuous improvement initiatives.

Position Overview

The Product Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and improving mechanical products from concept through production. This is a hands-on role working closely with manufacturing, with a strong focus on functionality, cost efficiency, and manufacturability.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, model, and test prototypes for new and existing products
• Develop concepts, specifications, and production criteria based on project requirements
• Conduct research and create design proposals and technical solutions
• Improve performance, functionality, and cost-efficiency of existing products
• Create detailed drawings, part lists, and technical documentation
• Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes, with a focus on steel fabricated components
• Collaborate closely with production to support prototype builds and product launches
• Estimate and track production costs for new designs
• Utilize CAD software (SolidWorks) to develop and refine designs
• Support production readiness, including packaging and implementation of new products

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field
• 3–8+ years of experience in product or mechanical design within a manufacturing environment
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, ideally with steel fabrication
• Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)
• Experience with ERP or inventory systems (e.g., SAP, BAAN, Global Shop) is a plus
• Familiarity with both U.S. customary and metric systems
• Hands-on, practical mindset with strong problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently
