Gas Turbine Case Engineer
JOB SUMMARY
Design and analyze outer cases and structural frames of industrial gas turbines. Manage the thermal growth and clearances between rotating components and the static casing to optimize efficiency and prevent rub conditions. Support manufacturing and continuous improvement. Ensure reliability under high-temperature/pressure conditions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to the following:
Precision Modeling & Tolerancing: Define critical fits and clearances through application of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing). Perform tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure proper fits and clearances between rotating components and the static casing to optimize efficiency and prevent rub conditions.
Design for Manufacturing (DfM): Collaborate closely with vendors to select materials and optimize part geometry for sand casting and machining. Evaluate any non-conformances and determine final disposition.
Structural Design & Analysis: Design, modify, and analyze turbine casings, mounts, and structural components using CAD (e.g., Creo, NX, SolidWorks) and FEA software to meet structural, thermal, and pressure requirements.
Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Investigate casing failures, cracking, or deformation, performing FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and recommending repairs or design improvements.
Field/Service Support: Perform site inspections, dimensional checks, and condition assessments to support maintenance planning, overhaul, and service life assessments.
Documentation: Maintain technical drawings, design standards, and technical reports regarding casing structural health.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Typical Qualifications
Education: B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
Experience: 3+ years of experience in gas turbine design, structural analysis, or manufacturing.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in FEA tools (ANSYS, ABAQUS), CAD software, and understanding of high-temperature alloys and casting processes.
Key Competencies
In-depth knowledge of pressure vessel design principles and thermal stress management.
Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes (sand casting, machining).
Excellent technical communication skills for interfacing with vendors and field service teams
Equal Opportunity Employer Veterans/Disabled
