About The Role
This position involves researching, planning, and designing galvanometer-related products and systems. Under general supervision, this role participates in directing and coordinating activities related to the development, fabrication, operation, application, and repair of opto-mechanical products and systems. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions that meet customer specifications and industry standards. While the position is based in Londonderry, NH, up to 10% travel may be required to customer locations and other Thorlabs sites. The role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the advancement of photonics technology through innovative design, problem-solving, and collaboration.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should possess a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field. A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in optical or electromechanical product design is preferred. Strong knowledge of optical systems, electrical circuitry, and mechanical design principles is essential. Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD, and experience with optical simulation tools, is highly desirable. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team are critical for success in this role. Effective communication skills and the ability to interpret technical data and specifications are also required.
Responsibilities
Research and analyze customer design proposals and specifications to assess feasibility and identify potential challenges.
Design and develop galvanometer systems and related opto-mechanical components, ranging from simple parts to complex assemblies.
Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to integrate electrical, optical, and mechanical elements into cohesive product designs.
Participate in troubleshooting and resolving issues related to electrical, optical, and mechanical subsystems during development and testing phases.
Develop detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and documentation to support manufacturing and quality assurance processes.
Conduct testing and validation of prototypes to ensure compliance with performance standards and customer requirements.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing existing products and processes for enhancements.
Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies to incorporate innovative solutions into product designs.
Assist in the preparation of technical reports, user manuals, and training materials as needed.
