Design Engineer – Dakota Bodies
The Design Engineer at Dakota Bodies supports the development and improvement of commercial and production facility products through detailed engineering design and drafting. This role is responsible for creating and maintaining 3D models, assemblies, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks while collaborating closely with engineers and the Director of Engineering. The position also involves processing engineering changes, performing design calculations, and ensuring products meet applicable industry codes, standards, and manufacturing requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Develop new product models, assemblies, and detailed manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks
Perform design calculations and assist in evaluating product performance and manufacturability
Modify and maintain existing drawings and documentation to support engineering and production changes
Create, process, and track Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and New Product Requests (NPRs)
Apply fundamental mechanical engineering and design principles to new and existing products
Review and verify regulatory artwork and manufacturing documentation for production accuracy
Ensure all drawings and designs comply with established engineering standards and applicable codes
Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and production teams to support product development and continuous improvement
Qualifications & Experience
Strong proficiency in 2D drafting and 3D modeling using SolidWorks
Prior hands-on experience with SolidWorks in a manufacturing or engineering environment required
Working knowledge of mechanical design principles and manufacturing processes
Ability to communicate effectively and contribute to technical problem-solving efforts
Preferred SolidWorks Certification with 3–5 years of related design engineering experience
Knowledge of GD&T and weld symbols/callouts preferred
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Strong mathematical and analytical skills
High attention to detail and ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
