This Associate Mechanical Design Engineer role focuses on supporting 2D AutoCAD-based product design and detailing activities under the guidance of a technical lead. The position involves preparing accurate equipment layouts and material details, interpreting customer requirements, and developing AutoCAD drawings and layout concepts that meet project and sales needs. The engineer contributes to layout design for various facilities and ensures all work is documented and tracked using advanced Excel tools while maintaining clear, professional communication with internal teams and customers.

Responsibilities

Support 2D AutoCAD design layout-based product design and detailing activities under the direction of a technical lead.
Prepare precise AutoCAD drawings, including equipment layouts and detailed bills of materials for projects.
Interpret customer requirements and translate them into sales quotations, AutoCAD drawings, and overall facility layouts.
Develop layout designs for environments such as factories, hotels, and hospitals using AutoCAD.
Evaluate geometric dimensions of available areas to recommend efficient material handling, workstation placement, and storage shelving layouts.
Create and maintain detailed project documentation, including drawings, BOMs, and layout specifications.
Use advanced Microsoft Excel to track project progress, manage data, and prepare reports.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine design requirements and ensure alignment with customer expectations.
Maintain clear and professional written and verbal communication in English with internal stakeholders and customers.
Ensure a high level of accuracy and attention to detail in all design, drafting, and documentation activities.

Essential Skills

Strong proficiency in 2D AutoCAD for drawing preparation, equipment layout, and material detailing.
Thorough knowledge of AutoCAD-based layout design, including factory, hotel, and hospital layouts.
Ability to interpret customer requirements and convert them into practical design solutions and sales quotations.
Experience in mechanical design, drafting, and BOM preparation.
Skill in evaluating geometric dimensions to optimize material handling, workstation layout, and storage solutions.
High attention to detail and accuracy in design and documentation.
Proficiency in advanced Microsoft Excel for project tracking and reporting.
Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across teams and maintain professional communication.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience with AutoCAD is highly preferred and considered a core competency for this role.
Familiarity with SolidWorks for mechanical modeling and design is beneficial.
Background in mechanical design engineering or a related technical discipline.
Ability to work with 2D layout and modeling tools to support design and drafting activities.
Comfort with preparing and managing bills of materials and other technical documentation.

Work Environment
