Job Title: Design Engineer 5 Automotive Interiors

Location: Arizona or Michigan (Local Candidates Only)

Duration: 12+ Months Contract (High possibility of extension)

Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Interior Design Engineer to join a high-performing automotive engineering team. This role focuses on the design, development, and launch of interior components and systems, delivering best-in-class quality, performance, and craftsmanship across vehicle programs.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the design and development of automotive interior components such as instrument panels (IP), door trims, consoles, headliners, and other trim systems
Drive end-to-end product development from concept through production (SOP)
Create and refine technical specifications, engineering documentation, and development timelines
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design, marketing, and vehicle engineering
Work closely with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery and technical excellence
Support packaging studies, engineering releases, and product launches
Apply innovative engineering tools and methodologies to improve development efficiency

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
4+ years of experience in automotive interior components and systems development
Strong expertise in hard trim and soft trim components (IP, door panels, consoles, etc.)
Proficiency in CAD tools, preferably CATIA V5/V6 (2D/3D modeling, DFM, packaging)
Experience developing technical product specifications and supporting accelerated timelines
Knowledge of automotive industry standards, trends, and supplier capabilities
Experience in product launch and engineering release processes

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience completing at least one full product lifecycle (concept to production launch)
Strong understanding of plastic part design, injection molding, GD&T, and DFM principles
Familiarity with ergonomics, safety standards, and homologation requirements
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, startup-like environment
Strong communication and collaboration skills with a hands-on engineering approach
