Piper Companies is seeking a Data QA Engineer III to join an enterprise technology organization supporting a modern, cloud-based data platform. The Data QA Engineer III will lead the development and execution of a comprehensive data quality and validation strategy, ensuring accuracy and reliability across ETL/ELT pipelines, transformations, and reporting outputs. This is a fully remote position. Candidates must reside in the EST or CST time zone. Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Responsibilities for the Data QA Engineer III:
Develop and execute data quality strategies across pipelines, models, and reporting layers
Design and maintain automated tests for ETL/ELT workflows, transformations, and analytics outputs
Write and optimize SQL queries for validation including reconciliation and data integrity checks
Build regression test suites to ensure consistency across releases and backfills
Implement data observability, monitoring, and alerting for anomalies and pipeline performance
Troubleshoot data issues and perform root cause analysis across end-to-end data flows
Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes
Collaborate with data engineering and BI teams to validate data models and reporting logic
Document QA processes, testing frameworks, and validation standards
Mentor team members and lead high-impact QA initiatives
Requirements for the Data QA Engineer III:
5+ years of experience in data engineering, data QA, or related role
Hands-on experience testing data systems including ETL/ELT pipelines, transformations, and models
Strong expertise in SQL and Python
Experience with Azure and Fabric; Databricks or Snowflake experience is acceptable
Experience with QA automation tools such as Cypress or Great Expectations
Experience integrating testing within CI/CD pipelines and using version control systems such as Git
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
Background working in smaller environments with leadership experience
experience supporting data validation for BI tools such as Power BI or Tableau
Must be authorized to work in the United States
Compensation for the Data QA Engineer III:
Salary range: $100,000 to $130,000, depending on experience
Full benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401k, and PTO, sick leave as required by law
