Summary
Custom Design Engineer provides estimates for modified Skyline products, custom manufactured products, and outsourced products for our Solutions Teams and for our Sales Representatives. Estimated products are typically complex and non-Skyline. The Custom Design Engineer will research, design, and engineer the product before estimating. The Custom Design Engineer will also provide structural reviews on exhibit designs for DIY and Solutions Teams.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
Evaluate custom applications and determine the necessary modifications of standard Skyline products to solve the application.
Utilize CAD to review the exhibit design and determine the details required for the custom application.
Evaluate complex custom applications and design a non-Skyline solution to include metal fabrication, wood fabrication, and outsourced materials. Inventing a new product is often necessary.
Utilize CAD to create the solutions for custom applications and to communicate the designs to our customer’s and to production.
Review custom applications with production departments and/or custom estimators to confirm feasibility.
Identify structural concerns and develop a solution.
Assist others with structural reviews of exhibits.
Communicate with sales reps, dealer office administrators and Project Estimators regarding questions and solutions on estimate requests.
Support sales, marketing, customer service, and production departments by researching and providing answers to product related questions when necessary.
Review the custom items cost and determine the wholesale price by applying the appropriate mark up.
Compar e the price of customized product s to standard and competitors’ product sand price the custom item accordingly.
Research any outsourced materials/products needed to create the solution and include them in the bill of materials with cost and vendor details.
Determine packaging for custom elements if required.
Determine the weight of the custom product.
Provide sketches and custom product details to CAD for product drawings.
Review and approve drawings, prints, and programs used to create the custom product.
Create cost analysis and lead time for large quantity custom products and the part numbers required for ordering.
Assist Manufacturing Engineering with a production plan for large quantity custom products.
Identify structural concerns and resolve them for DIY and Solutions teams.
Perform center of gravity and tip angle calculations to determine the structural integrity of exhibit designs.
Provide Skyline reviewed structural approvals for stable exhibit designs.
Utilize vendor resources to provide Professional Engineer reviewed approvals for exhibit designs.
Main resource for communications with vendors in the Vendor Alliance Program including the pricing and availability of the vendors’ products and services.
