About Munro
Munro & Associates is recognized globally for teardown, benchmarking, cost analysis, product improvement, and practical engineering insight. For more than thirty years, Munro has helped leading manufacturers understand what is inside competitive products, what those products cost to build, and how they can be engineered better.
Our work spans automotive, EVs, aerospace, defense, robotics, consumer products, industrial equipment, and emerging technologies. Each project brings a different product, customer challenge, and opportunity to create measurable impact.
Position Summary
Munro is seeking a motivated engineer with 3–5 years of experience who is ready to take on broader technical ownership, direct customer interaction, and a faster path toward project leadership.
This role is well suited for someone who has built a strong engineering foundation and is looking for more variety, visibility, and responsibility than a traditional single-function engineering position may provide. The ideal candidate is self-directed, curious, analytical, and comfortable working in an environment where technical findings must be translated into practical recommendations for customers.
As a Consultant, you will support and lead technical workstreams on customer projects involving teardown, benchmarking, product improvement, cost reduction, manufacturing analysis, and competitive assessment. You will work directly with experienced Munro staff and customer teams to evaluate products, identify improvement opportunities, and communicate findings clearly.
Why This Role Is Different
This position provides early exposure to customer-facing technical consulting work. Rather than focusing on one narrow product area for an extended period, you will work across a range of products, systems, industries, and customer challenges.
You will have the opportunity to:
Take ownership of meaningful technical workstreams early in your career
Work directly with physical products, teardown data, cost information, drawings, bills of material, and customer requirements
Participate in customer workshops, technical reviews, and on-site project initiatives
Present technical findings and recommendations to engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, and executive-level audiences
Learn directly from senior Munro consultants with extensive experience in product design, manufacturing, benchmarking, teardown analysis, and cost reduction
Develop the technical, communication, and leadership skills required for future project leadership roles
This is a strong opportunity for an engineer who wants to expand beyond a traditional engineering function and grow into a broader consulting and leadership role.
Key Responsibilities
Support and lead technical analysis on live customer projects
Conduct teardown, benchmarking, competitive assessment, and engineering evaluations
Identify opportunities to reduce cost, improve manufacturability, simplify design, improve quality, or improve product performance
Analyze product data, cost data, drawings, bills of material, manufacturing processes, and physical hardware
Develop clear technical reports and customer-facing presentations
Present and explain findings to customer technical teams and senior leaders
Participate in customer workshops and on-site initiatives focused on product improvement, cost reduction, innovation, and manufacturing strategy
Collaborate with Munro team members across engineering, manufacturing, costing, and project management disciplines
Translate technical observations into practical, actionable recommendations
Build increasing responsibility over time for project deliverables, customer discussions, and technical workstream leadership
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a high-potential engineer who wants to grow quickly through hands-on technical work, customer exposure, and increasing project responsibility.
You are likely a good fit if you:
Have 3–5 years of hands-on engineering experience
Are motivated by solving real product and manufacturing problems
Are comfortable taking initiative and moving work forward with limited direction
Want broader exposure than a narrowly defined engineering role typically provides
Communicate clearly and can explain technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences
Are interested in how products are designed, manufactured, costed, assembled, benchmarked, and improved
Are willing to participate in customer discussions and develop confidence presenting to senior audiences
Have the ability and desire to grow into project leadership, consulting leadership, workshop facilitation, or broader business responsibility
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline preferred
3–5 years of engineering experience in an OEM, Tier 1 supplier, engineering consultancy, hardware startup, manufacturing company, or related technical organization
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint for technical analysis, reporting, and presentations
Ability to work with product data, drawings, bills of material, cost information, and physical components
High ownership mentality and strong follow-through
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a project-based environment
Willingness to travel approximately 10–15% for customer initiatives, workshops, technical reviews, and project support
Experience in any of the following areas is helpful, but not required:
Body-in-white
Chassis systems
Electrical systems
Battery electric drivetrain / EV systems
ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems)
Vehicle integration
Mechanical systems
Manufacturing engineering
Product costing
Teardown or benchmarking
Supplier engineering
Design for manufacturing
Cost reduction or value engineering
Growth Path
Munro is looking for someone who can grow with the business. This role is intended for an engineer who can develop into higher levels of responsibility over time, including project leadership, customer-facing consulting, workshop leadership, and broader business or technical leadership roles.
Success in this position will be measured not only by technical output, but also by ownership, initiative, communication, customer impact, and the ability to convert analysis into practical recommendations.
Compensation & Benefits
Munro offers competitive compensation aligned with capability, responsibility, growth potential, and demonstrated impact.
Benefits include:
Competitive salary
