Brief Description
The Systems Concepting & Estimating group is responsible for developing designs and proposals for complete material handling systems and solutions for existing and new customer facilities. The engineers must understand the customers’ bid documents, specifications, material flows and operations. Applying this information and knowledge, the engineer will evaluate and select appropriate equipment / technology and will develop an overall design for the system. Once the design is established, the team will be responsible for estimating all the project costs and developing proposal documentation. This work will require input from and collaboration with external suppliers, as well as internal departments.
Responsibilities
Read and apply customers’ bid documents and specifications, as well as analyze and understand material flows and operations.
Apply engineering theory and principles to analyze application requirements and develop solutions.
Travel to customer facilities to conduct site surveys for potential projects.
Create material handling and sortation system designs and layouts using 2D and 3D CAD software.
Create general arrangement drawings (plan views), elevation views, section views and bills of materials.
Develop estimates for equipment and integration costs for potential new projects.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders as required to obtain the necessary information required to perform design and estimating functions.
Write functional design documents, test plans and RFQ documents.
Requirements
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Proficient knowledge of material handling system layout concepts
Working knowledge of project execution
Ability to communicate, both orally and written, at all levels of the business and with customers.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with changing priorities.
Basic knowledge of electrical controls related to material handling systems.
Ability to travel to job sites and attend customer meetings.
Education And Experience
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in mechanical/electrical/Industrial engineering or related field
5+ years’ experience in the material handling industry or related.
Experience with AutoCAD or other 3D CAD software.
Simulation experience is a plus.
