Job Description:
The CAD Operator II is responsible for creating, revising, and maintaining engineering drawings and design documentation using AutoCAD. This role supports engineers and engineering technologists by converting redline markups and digital design modifications into accurate, high-quality technical drawings.
The ideal candidate is a highly skilled drafting professional with strong AutoCAD experience who can quickly contribute with minimal training. Preference will be given to candidates with electric utility and substation design knowledge, as well as proficiency in AutoCAD. Civil 3D and Autodesk Inventor knowledge is preferred.
Key Responsibilities
• Interpret engineering markups, sketches, and redline revisions and accurately incorporate changes into design drawings.
• Produce detailed construction and engineering drawings that comply with company drafting standards and procedures.
• Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and quality prior to release.
• Collaborate with engineers, engineering technologists, and project teams to resolve drafting and design questions.
• Manage drawing revisions, documentation updates, and file organization within company systems.
• Support multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and quality expectations.
• Maintain a high level of productivity and attention to detail in a fast-paced engineering environment.
• Apply established drafting standards and best practices to ensure consistency across project deliverables.
Required Qualifications
• Associate degree in Drafting, CAD Technology, Design Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline; or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of professional drafting experience using AutoCAD.
• Demonstrated proficiency using AutoCAD as a primary job function in a production drafting environment.
• Ability to interpret engineering markups, technical drawings, specifications, and design documents.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supporting electric utility, transmission, or substation design projects strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of substation layouts, equipment arrangements, one-line diagrams, control house drawings, grounding plans, and related utility design standards.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred.
• Experience using Autodesk Inventor preferred.
• Experience creating and revising electrical engineering drawings in a utility, industrial, or power delivery environment.
• Familiarity with Bluebeam or similar electronic markup software.
• Experience supporting engineering and design teams within regulated utility environments.
• Knowledge of drafting standards, revision control practices, and engineering documentation processes.
