Position Overview
The Drafter uses SolidWorks to create engineering designs, drawings, and other technical information for use in manufacturing, construction, and fabrication. Duties include creating conceptual design drawings, official shop drawings for customer approval, verifying that drawings meet required specifications, and creating build prints for manufacturing team.
Responsibilities & Duties:
● Create preliminary design sketches for conceptual analysis
● Create engineering drawings and designs for production and manufacturing
● Create design specifications, documentation, and material lists
● Collaborate with Sales team to estimate material and production costs for design
● Perform and document tolerance analysis of components and assemblies to ensure proper fit and function based on current design inputs
● Prepare complete documentation packages for distribution to end customer, including engineers, architects, and contractors
● Verify drawings are correct to specifications, codes, and other regulations
● Approve Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and obtain approvals from others as required. Generate innovative concepts for new project requirements
● Participate in concept generation activities, including brainstorming sessions
Training/Education:
● College or university degree in drafting, engineering design, or other related discipline
● Technical Drawing Certificate
● Proficiency in SolidWorks and Bluebeam
Experience & Qualifications:
● Ability to operate SolidWorks computer-aided design (CAD) software
● Ability to multitask and manage several projects at a time
● Exceptional attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
● Interpersonal skills to work within a team, taking direction from Drafting Lead
● Time management skills to complete error-free work within the required timeframe
● Communication skills with an emphasis on reading and writing for creating documentation and reports
● Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to develop creative solutions
● Certified SOLIDWORKS Associate (CSWA) Certification Preferred
● Certified SOLIDWORKS Professional (CSWA) Certification is a plus
● Experience with SolidWorks Simulation FEA program is a plus
