Chief Mechanical Engineer

We’re hiring on behalf of LiquidPiston (LPI) — a cutting-edge company reinventing the internal combustion engine. Their patented rotary X-engine platform delivers ultra-efficient, compact, and power-dense engines for aerospace, defense, commercial, and mobility applications.
LPI is looking for a hands-on, strategic engineering leader to drive the development of their next-generation engine—from prototype to production.
About the Role:
As Chief Engineer, you’ll lead the technical execution of a major engine program. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams, oversee design and testing, and help shape the future of propulsion. This is a lab-driven, R&D-heavy role with high visibility and impact.
Responsibilities:
Own the end-to-end development of a next-gen rotary engine
Lead and grow a multidisciplinary engineering team
Oversee engine design, integration, testing, and validation
Partner with leadership to define the product roadmap
Interface with customers, partners, and stakeholders
Drive innovation in performance, manufacturability, and cost
Ideal Background:
10+ years leading engine or mechanical systems development
Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s or PhD preferred)
Deep expertise in combustion engines, rotary systems, thermofluids
Strong hands-on prototyping and lab-based engineering experience
Skilled in CAD/simulation tools (SolidWorks, FEA, etc.)
Proven team leadership and cross-functional collaboration
