Job Title: Chassis EngineerJob Description

This role focuses on the end-to-end design and development of automotive chassis systems, including brakes, suspension, wheels, tires, and steering for off-road vehicles, trucks, and cars. The Chassis Engineer creates and manages detailed CAD models and drawings using CATIA and 3DX, ensures manufacturing and assembly feasibility, and collaborates closely with global engineering teams and suppliers to deliver robust, production-ready chassis components.

Responsibilities

Design and develop chassis systems and components, including brakes, suspension, wheels, tires, and steering, for automotive off-road vehicles, trucks, and cars.
Create detailed CAD models, assemblies, and drawings for chassis components using CATIA V5/V6 and 3DX, applying appropriate GD&T to ensure dimensional accuracy and fit.
Apply extensive knowledge of GSD, part modeling, drawing creation, assembly, and kinematics within CATIA and 3DX to develop high-quality chassis designs.
Lead the ground-up design of chassis components, progressing from concept through detailed design to production-ready solutions.
Evaluate and establish manufacturing, assembly, and service feasibility for all chassis designs, ensuring they can be produced, assembled, and maintained efficiently.
Provide functional expertise in the design and development of chassis aggregates and make informed technical decisions in collaboration with Design & Release (D&R) engineers and suppliers.
Collaborate with global engineering teams and suppliers across time zones to align design solutions, resolve technical issues, and support program delivery.
Use Teamcenter Engineering and Vismockup to manage product data, review digital models, and support virtual validation of chassis designs.
Contribute to and follow new product development processes, program milestones, and delivery success criteria to ensure timely and quality project execution.
Incorporate engineering operations and manufacturing process considerations, including sheet metal design and fabrication, into chassis component designs.
Support change management activities and documentation related to chassis design updates and improvements, using relevant tools and processes where applicable.

Essential Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.E. or B.Tech Mechanical).
5 to 9 years of professional experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on automotive chassis design and development.
Strong expertise in chassis systems design and development, including brakes, suspension, wheels, tires, and steering for off-road vehicles, trucks, and cars.
Proficiency in CATIA V5/V6 and 3DX, including GSD, part modeling, drawing creation, assembly, and kinematics.
Hands-on experience in developing CAD models, assemblies, and engineering drawings for chassis components using CATIA and 3DX.
Solid knowledge and practical application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
Expertise in sheet metal design and an understanding of engineering operations and manufacturing processes relevant to chassis components.
Experience using Teamcenter Engineering and Vismockup for product data management and digital model review.
Ability to make sound technical decisions and provide functional expertise in chassis aggregates in collaboration with D&R engineers and suppliers.
Good understanding of new product development processes, program milestones, and delivery success criteria.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Knowledge of WERS, GPDS, and DPA 0/1 is an advantage.
Familiarity with global change management processes, such as Ford Global Change Management (GCM), is beneficial.
Demonstrated flexibility to work across multiple time zones and engage in extensive global interaction.
Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional and international teams.
Ability to balance design innovation with manufacturing, assembly, and service feasibility considerations.

Work Environment

The role is based in a professional engineering environment focused on automotive product development and chassis systems. You will work extensively with digital design tools such as CATIA V5/V6, 3DX, Teamcenter Engineering, and Vismockup, collaborating with global teams across different time zones. The work involves close interaction with engineering, manufacturing, and supplier partners to ensure that designs are feasible, producible, and serviceable. Expect a structured environment aligned with formal new product development processes, program milestones, and change management practices, with a focus on high-quality engineering output and effective virtual collaboration.
