Job Title: CAD Engineer

Job Description

The CAD Engineer designs and details truck exterior, interior, and cab-in-white components using Siemens NX, with a strong focus on surface modeling, plastic, and sheet metal part design. This role transforms engineering concepts into manufacturable designs by interpreting engineering drawings and specifications and applying knowledge of relevant manufacturing processes and PLM tools.

Responsibilities

Design and detail truck exterior components using Siemens NX, ensuring accurate geometry and robust engineering solutions.
Develop and refine truck interior parts, including plastic and sheet metal components, to meet functional and aesthetic requirements.
Create and detail cab-in-white (CIW) parts, ensuring structural integrity and alignment with overall vehicle architecture.
Apply advanced NX surface modeling techniques to develop complex surfaces and high-quality Class-A style features where required.
Interpret and work from engineering drawings, specifications, and design standards to create precise 3D models and 2D drawings.
Incorporate knowledge of plastic and sheet metal manufacturing processes into designs to ensure feasibility, durability, and cost-effectiveness.
Use PLM and engineering client tools to manage CAD data, maintain version control, and ensure proper documentation of design changes.
Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to review designs, resolve issues, and implement design improvements.
Prepare and update CAD models, assemblies, and drawings in line with project timelines and quality requirements.
Support design reviews by providing clear CAD representations, sections, and detailed views to communicate design intent.

Essential Skills

Strong expertise in Siemens NX (Unigraphics NX) with a focus on 3D modeling and detailed design.
Proficiency in NX surface modeling, including creation and modification of complex surfaces.
Hands-on experience in plastic part design for automotive or similar applications.
Hands-on experience in sheet metal part design, including bends, flanges, and formed features.
Ability to interpret and apply engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications.
Knowledge of plastic manufacturing processes and their impact on design, such as injection molding and related techniques.
Knowledge of sheet metal manufacturing processes and their constraints, such as stamping, forming, and cutting.
Familiarity with PLM and engineering client tools for managing CAD data and design workflows.
Proficiency with UGNX, including modeling, drafting, and assembly management.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience working on truck exterior, interior, or cab-in-white (CIW) components in a CAD engineering role.
Understanding of design for manufacturability and design for assembly principles for plastic and sheet metal parts.
Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and other stakeholders to refine and optimize designs.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, production-ready CAD models and drawings.

Work Environment

The CAD Engineer works in a professional engineering environment, using Siemens NX (Unigraphics NX) and related PLM tools on modern CAD workstations. The role typically involves standard office hours, with work performed in a collaborative setting alongside other design and engineering professionals. Work is primarily computer-based, focusing on 3D modeling, detailing, and data management within established digital workflows.
