Isuzu Technical Center of America is looking for a (C) Engineer, CV Engineering to join their operations in Plymouth, MI. The selected candidate will be placed with a preferred agency for employment.

Job Summary

Conducts high level engineering activities related to various chassis components, including decision making, solving product design issues, creating part drawings with appropriate engineering specifications, estimating engineering costs and development timing, and conducting some testing for select projects. Maintains engineering parts lists and assembly instructions to support vehicle build events. Resolves engineering issues independently, including root cause analysis, gathering of information, creation of proposals, proposal analysis, creation of engineering documentation, leading the proposal review, obtaining concurrence on proposal, and finial execution of the proposal. Additionally, provides engineering assistance for ISUZU related companies and departments.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

25%

Design components or parts for commercial vehicles. Evaluates technical contents and makes effective decisions considering a wide range of alternatives for leading problem resolution, improving quality, reducing cost, and keeping schedules. Reports activities and decisions to manager for approval and direction.

15%

Maintains engineering parts lists for mass production. Creates BOMs and supports part procurement for development vehicle builds.

Maintains project and schedule control. Reports to management in a timely manner.

Communicates effectively with ISUZU-Japan engineering, suppliers, Spartan Motors, and other parties based on teamwork concepts.

Manages suppliers or other parties to achieve targets on time.

Assists and consults with other ISUZU departments and companies, including Purchasing, Production, and Service, providing technical documentation to support their activities.

Attends technical events/meetings with GM, ISUZU-Japan, Spartan Motors, ISZA vendors, and others.

Analyzes new technologies and trends. Prepares various reports and research findings to management in the U.S. and in Japan.

Studies competitors’ vehicles and evaluates them for engineering research.

Performs miscellaneous job related duties as assigned.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Manager, CV Engineering

Education, Experience & Training

Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
Minimum five years experience in automotive product design engineering

KNOWLEDGE

Strong knowledge of the design process for automotive components to include:
Detailed Drawings
GD&T
Vehicle Performance & Packaging
FEA Analysis (Including basis of Strength, Fatigue and Modal analysis)
DFMEA, FTA, QC, Tolerance Stack Analysis
Threaded Fasteners and Bolt Joints
Automotive parts knowledge for material (metal, plastic, textile), production process, requirement, test method, regulation, and development process
Familiar with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard and Society of Automotive Engineers/American Standard Test Method
Basic operational skill on UG/NX or other CAD software

Proficient PC skills in Windows applications
Good verbal and written communication skills
Strong analytical skills
Strong ability to sketch and read drawings

PHYSICAL STANDARDS

Employee must be able to perform occasional light lifting (5-25 lbs) and rare heavy lifting (60 lbs)
Must be able on rare occasions to bend, crawl, climb, crouch, kneel and reach above shoulder level in the performance of job duties
Position requires 10-20% domestic and international travel, including overnight stays
