GAI Consultants, Inc is seeking a Bridge Project Engineer to work within our Western Pennsylvania offices with our Transportation Business Unit. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a challenging, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment that will utilize their related work experience to develop professionally into a well-rounded engineer with the ability to grow in today's nationwide environment.
Experience Required
8+ years of engineering experience on a variety of bridge types (structural steel and precast concrete).
Experience with AASHTO and PennDOT standards, structural directives, specifications, and design manuals.
Experience with structural analysis and bridge design.
Proficiency in Midas, CSI Bridge, AASHTOWare BrR, AASHTOWare BrD, MDX, Leap Bridge Concrete, and other design and rating software packages.
Proficiency in MicroStation and Open Bridge Designer.
General Characteristics
Applies thorough knowledge of current principles and practices of engineering related to the variety of aspects affecting the transportation business.
Applies progressively acquired expertise to resolve crucial issues and/or unique conditions.
Keeps informed of new methods and developments affecting their practice and recommends new practices or changes in emphasis of projects.
Leads projects of moderate complexity and scope or leads a major project.
Attends professional society events and develops industry relationships.
Analyzes ethical dilemmas to determine appropriate courses of action. Applies broad knowledge of principles and practices in a specific practice area.

Education
B.S. or M.S. Engineering
Certification/Licensure
Professional Engineer (P.E.) License in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Registration in other states is desirable.
Technical Responsibilities
Occasionally serves as the technical advisor in the application of advanced concepts and methods in an assigned area.
Keeps informed of new developments and requirements affecting the practice for the purpose of recommending changes in projects or applications.
Ability to properly apply and communicate engineering concepts, processes, materials, or products.
Project and Task Management
Oversees a project team of engineers and technicians.
Plans, schedules, and coordinates the preparation of documents or activities for multiple projects.
Contributes to and follows project management plans for complex engineering projects.
Understands project delivery uncertainties and uses risk management principles to address them.
Reviews operational procedures to ensure compliance with applicable policies and performance measures.
Mentors’ direct reports and or other engineers.
Integrates professional attitudes relevant to the practice of engineering and fosters creativity, curiosity, flexibility, and dependability in staff.
Communication Skills
Applies principles of formal strategic and persuasive communications.
Represents their area of specialty within the practice and liaises with related individuals and practices.
Routinely interacts with practice leaders, clients, officials, contractors, and others.
Integrates concepts of effective teamwork and leadership.
