Job Title: BIW Designer
Job Description
This role focuses on Body in White (BiW) design and development, with responsibility for creating concepts and detailed designs of vehicle structures, including the frontend and underbody/platform. The BIW Designer ensures that structural designs meet functional performance requirements in crash, NVH, durability, manufacturing, assembly, and packaging. The position involves advanced CAD development using UG NX, integration with PLM systems, and close collaboration with cross-functional and international teams to deliver robust, manufacturable vehicle structures.
Responsibilities
Create and develop concepts and detailed designs for Body in White vehicle structures, including frontend and underbody/platform components.
Ensure that all BIW designs meet functional performance requirements for crash, NVH, durability, manufacturing, assembly, and packaging.
Use advanced CAD tools in UG NX to model, refine, and optimize BIW components and assemblies.
Apply established design methodologies and standards to ensure consistency, quality, and compliance with engineering guidelines.
Integrate BIW designs within PLM systems to maintain accurate configuration control, versioning, and documentation.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including crash, NVH, durability, manufacturing, and assembly engineering, to align BIW designs with overall vehicle requirements.
Work with international teams to coordinate design activities, resolve technical issues, and support global product development.
Support design reviews by presenting concepts, justifying design decisions, and incorporating feedback into updated CAD models.
Address manufacturability and assembly considerations early in the design phase to reduce complexity, cost, and potential production issues.
Essential Skills
Proven experience in Body in White (BiW) design and development for automotive vehicle structures.
Strong expertise in concept creation and detailed design of frontend and underbody/platform structures.
Solid understanding of functional performance requirements related to crash, NVH, durability, manufacturing, assembly, and packaging.
Advanced proficiency in CAD development using UG NX for BIW components and assemblies.
Hands-on experience working with PLM systems to manage design data and product structures.
Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to integrate BIW designs into the overall vehicle architecture.
Experience working with international teams and participating in global product development activities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Familiarity with established BIW design methodologies and best practices.
Ability to interpret and apply engineering standards and guidelines to BIW designs.
Strong problem-solving skills to resolve design, packaging, and integration issues.
Effective communication skills for presenting design concepts and participating in design reviews.
Attention to detail and a structured approach to documentation and design change management within PLM environments.
Work Environment
You will work in a collaborative engineering environment that emphasizes cross-functional interaction and global cooperation. The role involves extensive use of UG NX for 3D CAD modeling and PLM systems for managing design data and documentation. You will regularly engage with teams focused on crash, NVH, durability, manufacturing, and assembly to ensure that BIW designs are robust, manufacturable, and aligned with overall vehicle requirements. The setting supports structured design reviews, iterative development, and close coordination with international colleagues as part of an integrated product development process.
