BIM Engineer

We are seeking a BIM Engineer with experience in material handling or conveyor systems to support the design and coordination of airport baggage handling systems.. This role will focus on developing accurate 2D and 3D AutoCAD models and layouts, supporting installation, coordination, and construction efforts in complex airport environments. This is a 18+ month contract to direct opportunity in the metro Detroit area.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain 2D layouts and 3D BIM models for baggage handling conveyor systems using AutoCAD (2D & 3D)
Create detailed installation drawings, equipment layouts, and system routing plans
Review and interpret project specifications, architectural drawings, and engineering documents
Identify and resolve design clashes and spatial conflicts within airport facilities
Support field installation teams with drawing updates, redlines, and as-built documentation
Participate in design reviews, coordination meetings, and project planning sessions
Ensure drawings meet industry standards, client specifications, and project timelines
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
3+ years of experience in BIM, CAD design, or layout engineering
Strong proficiency in AutoCAD 2D and 3D (required)
Familiarity with Revit, Navisworks, or other BIM coordination tools
Experience with conveyor systems, material handling, or airport projects preferred
Understanding of mechanical systems, equipment layouts, and industrial environments
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
Preferred Skills
Experience with baggage handling systems (BHS) or large-scale conveyor systems
Knowledge of airport design standards and safety requirements
