Primary Function
The Project Engineer (Projects) is an enterprise AV Engineer, with experience in networked AV design or integration. They serve as the client’s technical representative to oversee capital refresh projects from design through implementation and turnover. The role guides external AV design consultants to ensure designs align with client’s AV engineering practices and enterprise constraints, and oversees AV contractors/integrators during implementation, commissioning, and acceptance to ensure delivered systems comply with approved design intent, standards, quality expectations, and operational maintainability.
Duties & Responsibilities
Act as the technical Owner’s Representative across the full AV project lifecycle (requirements, SD, DD, CD, bid docs, implementation, commissioning, turnover).
Define and validate AV technical requirements with stakeholders and internal AV Engineering; maintain design intent and technical integrity throughout delivery.
Guide external system designers and review milestone deliverables (drawings, narratives, specifications) to ensure alignment with client’s AV standards and enterprise environment constraints.
Coordinate with AV Operations/Engineering to ensure designs meet operational standards, are supportable and maintainable, and are properly turned over.
Support technical scope development for procurement packages and clarify requirements during solicitation and evaluation as needed.
Review and disposition contractor submittals for compliance (BOMs, shop drawings, cut sheets, test/commissioning plans, cutover/rollback plans).
Manage technical RFIs and design clarifications; document decisions and ensure approved changes are reflected in project records.
Monitor implementation quality via QA/QC observations and compliance checks; identify nonconformances and drive corrective actions to closure.
Lead commissioning activities; manage punch lists and support acceptance decisions against defined criteria.
Ensure complete, accurate turnover to operations including training and project documentation.
Provide occasional operational support as needed in collaboration with the Operations/Engineering team.
Proficiency with reviewing/validating shop drawings, rack elevations, cable schedules, and patch lists for completeness, compliance, and serviceability.
Validate contractor configuration/programming approaches against standards and commissioning readiness expectations.
Lead FAT/SAT and commissioning activities; document results and manage punch list closure through acceptance.
Verify testing and training deliverables meet contract requirements and operational needs.
Verify as-built documentation and asset/register information is accurate and delivered for lifecycle tracking and support readiness.
Perform duties outside regular business hours (evenings/weekends) to support project commissioning and cutover activities as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
Demonstrated experience acting as technical Owner’s Representative (or equivalent) for AV capital projects across requirements, SD/DD/CD, construction administration, commissioning, and turnover.
Strong AV systems integration background from an oversight/compliance perspective: ability to evaluate architectures, signal flow, control intent, and subsystem interactions, and identify risk/gaps in consultant and contractor deliverables.
Proven ability to guide external design consultants through design milestones and produce clear, actionable review comments that drive compliance with standards.
Strong competency reviewing contractor submittals and RFIs (BOMs, shop drawings, cut sheets, test plans, commissioning/cutover plans) and enforcing design intent.
QA/QC mindset: field observation, compliance verification, punch list management, and closeout discipline.
Curiosity and interest in innovation is encouraged, and an understanding of the principles, ethics, and modalities of AI and generative artificial intelligence (AI) and their audio/video applications.
Ability to translate technical requirements and decisions for non-technical stakeholders; confident and constructive working with “big voices” and multiple vendors.
Self-motivated, accountable, highly organized; able to manage multiple concurrent workstreams and deadlines.
Proficient in Microsoft 365 tools (Excel, Word, Teams) and common review tools (e.g., Workfront, Autodesk, PDF markups).
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field, or equivalent work experience.
AVIXA CTS desired, CTS-D and/or CTS-I strongly preferred (or demonstrably equivalent experience); we support all employees in obtaining their appropriate AVIXA credentials.
Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience in AV over IP systems delivery, including design review/governance and construction administration support.
Experience with enterprise AV standards, lifecycle refresh programs, and turnover practices that enable sustainable operations.
Familiarity with emerging tools that accelerate documentation, analysis, or content workflows is a plus.
