Overview
The Project Engineer is responsible for ensuring the technical feasibility of audiovisual (AV) integration projects from design finalization through installation and commissioning. This role reviews project documentation, develops engineering deliverables, and supports project execution teams to ensure systems are accurately designed, implemented according to intent, and aligned with customer and business requirements.
The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver who collaborates effectively across Sales, Engineering, Operations, Programming, Fabrication, and Field Teams in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Design Finalization & Documentation
· After project award review all bid documents, specifications, drawings, and schedules to ensure technical accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project requirements.
o Validate the feasibility of the system design.
o Confirm project scope and technical requirements.
o Identify gaps, conflicts, and risks.
o Secure clarifications prior to procurement and delivery.
· Produce final engineering documentation, including:
o System functional narratives
o Bill of Materials (BOM)
o Cable pull schedules
o Shop Drawings – Plans, Elevations, Details, Riser and Wiring Diagrams
· Perform applicable engineering calculations (heat load, power, structural support, etc.) to ensure the engineered solution is within safe parameters.
· Coordinate with additional CAD/Engineering resources to deliver submittal-ready documentation within defined project schedule.
· Advise on any other outstanding technical issues to ensure the design is install-ready before field deployment.
Project Technical Support
· Provide technical leadership during installation, commissioning, and testing.
· Support Project Managers with accurate engineering documentation and updates.
· Consult with Field Team with troubleshooting, system configuration, DSP tuning, and calibration.
· Ensure design intent is clearly communicated to fabrication and field teams.
· Contribute to close-out documentation, including “as-built” records when required.
Team & Vendor Collaboration
· Participate in internal and customer kickoff and handoff meetings.
· Coordinate infrastructure, device connectivity, and network requirements with contractors and IT teams.
· Collaborate with programming and commissioning resources to support validation and testing.
· Maintain relationships with vendors and technology partners.
General Responsibilities
· Travel to job sites as needed to support implementation.
· Adapt work priorities based on project schedules and customer needs.
· Perform additional engineering-related tasks as needed.
· Adhere to project schedules and deadlines, which may require participation outside of normal business hours.
· This role may be considered safety-sensitive, depending on job-site conditions.
Qualifications
Required
· Experience in AV system design, engineering, system integration, or technical field support.
· Strong understanding of AV system architecture, signal flow, and control systems.
· Proficiency with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Visio, or similar design software.
· Ability to read and interpret construction and engineering drawings.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
· Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Preferred
· AVIXA CTS certification (CTS-D or CTS-I a plus)
· Formal education in Engineering, Electronics, or related technical discipline
· Experience with:
o Crestron, AMX, Extron, Q-SYS, Biamp, or similar platforms
o DSP tuning and AV system calibration
o Enterprise UC platforms such as Teams, Zoom, and Webex
o AV-over-IP and networking fundamentals
· Relevant manufacturer or networking certifications
Personal Attributes
· Customer-focused and quality-driven
· Detail-oriented with strong follow-through
· Able to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities
· Positive and collaborative team contributor
· Self-directed and accountable, yet open to coaching and feedback
