Overview:
Our client is looking to hire an AI Scientist to join a small, high-impact AI team. As a lean organization, each team member is involved across the full lifecycle of work — from early-stage research and methodology development through production deployment. This position is more focused on the research side, emphasizing the creation of innovative approaches to applying AI at the intersection of life sciences and investment finance.
The ideal candidate will be intellectually curious, highly creative, and deeply rooted in AI research, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift and ambiguity is common.
Familiarity with life sciences data — including clinical trial datasets, drug development pipelines, and regulatory documentation
Responsibilities:
Identify and develop AI methodologies that align with the client’s investment and analytical needs
Design strategies for leveraging large language models in quantitative research contexts, including financial modeling, scientific and clinical literature, and structured life sciences data
Translate complex domain-specific challenges — such as those in drug development, royalty valuation, and portfolio risk — into clearly defined AI research problems
Create and implement evaluation frameworks to rigorously assess AI system performance on investment research tasks
Stay up to date with emerging AI techniques and evaluate their relevance to the team’s work
Clearly communicate research insights to both technical team members and non-technical investment professionals
Partner closely with the AI Engineer and investment team to take ideas from initial concept through to production deployment
Qualifications:
PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or a related discipline is strongly preferred; a Master’s degree may be considered for candidates with exceptional research experience
10+ years of industry experience preferred; backgrounds in finance, quantitative research, or life sciences are particularly valuable — especially for candidates who have applied ML or AI in financial contexts
Demonstrated track record of original research contributions, such as a strong publication record or equivalent work
Deep knowledge of large language models, including approaches related to reasoning, retrieval, and agent-based systems
Experience developing evaluation methodologies or benchmarks for AI systems
Background applying AI within quantitative or scientific research domains
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical audiences
Proven ability to operate effectively in a small team environment where both research and implementation are critical
