Summary

RBC Bearings, through its Aircraft Products, Inc. (API) division, is seeking an experienced Applications Engineering Team Leader to support a growing and well-established business in Torrington, CT. This role combines deep technical expertise in bearing applications with leadership responsibility, guiding a team while directly supporting customers and high-performance aerospace systems.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineering leader with extensive experience in rolling element bearing design and application, capable of contributing immediately in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.

Core Responsibilities

Lead and mentor a team of applications engineers, supporting their technical development and career growth
Design, analyze, and apply rolling element bearings for high-performance aerospace and industrial systems
Utilize advanced engineering methods for bearing life prediction, lubrication, tribology, thermal performance, and failure analysis
Provide direct technical support to customers, including product selection, troubleshooting, and performance optimization
Collaborate cross-functionally with design, manufacturing, and sales teams to meet customer requirements
Interpret complex engineering data and translate findings into actionable recommendations
Serve as a technical expert and key point of contact for both internal stakeholders and external customers
Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering tools, processes, and product offerings

Qualifications & Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, Finance, Legal Studies, or related Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field
Minimum of 10 years of direct experience in rolling element bearing design and application
Proven ability to independently design and analyze bearings for demanding applications
Strong expertise in bearing analysis tools, life prediction, lubrication, tribology, thermal behavior, and failure analysis
Prior leadership or team management experience required
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage both technical and non-technical audiences
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to deliver results in a dynamic environment
